Once upon a time there were three little dogs who lived on the streets of the city without a mother or a father to care for them.
They were supposed to be growing but the scraps of food they found were barely enough to keep them going.
The first dog was lazy. He lay in the corner of an alley and waited for his brothers to bring him something when they returned.
One day, a big, bad dogcatcher cornered him while he was taking a nap. “Little dog, little dog, get in my net,” he said. “Not by the cropped tail on my butty butt butt!” replied the pig nervously.
“Then I’ll swing, and I’ll sway my net, and I’ll snatch you up!” shouted the man. But he swung so hard that slipped and landed on his butt!
The little dog ran as fast as he could, looking to find his brothers.
The second dog was hard-working but wasn’t the smartest.
The big, bad dogcatcher found him in a trashcan. “Little dog, little dog, get in my net,” he said. “Not by the cropped tail on my butty butt butt!” replied the second dog.
“Then I’ll swing, and I’ll sway my net, and I’ll snatch you up!” shouted the man. But he swung so hard that slipped and landed on his butt!
Unfortunately, the second dog didn’t recognize this was his chance to get away. He just stood in the trashcan and would have been caught if it weren’t for the first dog who ran up, pushed the can over, and got him to run off to find the third brother.
The third dog was not only hard-working like the second dog, he was also the smartest of the bunch.
When the other two arrived and told him their story he got them all to work together to build the biggest, scariest doggy decoy ever.
They all climbed behind a dumpster with their decoy and waited for the dogcatcher to come down this alley.
The big, bad dogcatcher found him in a trash can. “Little dogs, little dogs, get in my net,” he said. “Not by the cropped tails on our butty butt butts!” replied all three dogs together.
“Then I’ll swing, and I’ll sway my net, and I’ll snatch you up!” shouted the man. But he couldn’t fit his net behind the dumpster. He was a sly dogcather, and he decided to find another way in. He began to pull the dumpster away from the wall.
And that’s when it happened. The three little dogs pushed the big, scary dog decoy out from behind the dumpster. All three barked as loud and as low as they could together.
“Yeeeow!” the dogcatcher yelled and spun around so fast that slipped and landed on his butt!.
He ran for his truck. And he never, ever, bothered the three little dogs again.
