Virtual Field Trip To Jerusalem

Miss Kate Creamer Grade 6 World Cultures Grade 6 Field Trip Information

Hello Our class will be embarking on a virtual field trip of Jerusalem this week. We will be looking at how a person’s perspective of a place can change based on their cultural background. We will be using a National Geographic online tour called “Culture Goggles.” This field trip looks at important buildings and areas according to Christians, Jewish people, and Muslims. Our research and trip will be more culturally based than religious. The students will participate in a pre-test to see what they know about Jerusalem and the different cultures. We will then embark on the field trip which can be found at the link below. After the field trip, the students will pick one of the cultures to do a project on. They will answer questions to make a short paper, and be responsible to make a visual presentation of the buildings that are important to the culture. They will have plenty of in class time to complete their project and should have minimal homework. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. Please sign below to say you are aware of the virtual field trip and of the project to follow.

Thank you

3. What are some famous places in Jerusalem? Field Trip Assignment

We have just returned from Jerusalem and what a trip!! We learned how the perspective of a place can change based on your culture. Even one building can have two very different meanings!! You are now each going to choose a culture to research. You will be responsible for researching the culture to determine why the particular places in Jerusalem are important to the culture, as well as what kind of ceremonies are held at this place. Your will write a 2-4 page paper on your topic that answers the questions below, as well as make a visual presentation of your culture. This can be a poster, diorama, or tourism advertisement. Show us why Jerusalem is important to you!! You should also include a fact card with a picture of a building or area of importance on the front and facts about that place on the back. There will be lots of in class time to work on this, including trips to the library to conduct research.

Questions to consider

1. What buildings or areas are important to your culture?

2. Why are these buildings important to your culture?

3. How are these buildings used in ceremonies or celebrations?

4. How long has this building or area been important to your culture?

5. What are some physical characteristics of this place?

6. Is this building important to any other culture?

7. Have there been any battles fought that involve this structure? Rubric for Field Trip Assignment
