Haverford Middle School Boys’ Track and Field Team 2015 Coaches: Mr. Henry and Mrs. Mazzella Dear Parents,

We are pleased to be working with your son this year on the Haverford Middle School Boys’ Track Team. It is great to see their interest in this athletic program. We hope to have a positive track season this spring in which the student-athletes improve their skills and conditioning, experience success, and have fun. Before the season begins, we would like to stress the importance of commitment and the importance of following team rules as outlined below.

1. WHAT PAPERWORK DO YOU NEED?  Doctor’s signature o Already played a sport and have a physical  You only need page 7 o No physical  You need pages 1-6 o Physical dated between 6/1/14 and 1/31/15 You need only page 7 o Physical dated between 2/1/15 and present  Page 7 is not needed  Emergency information/signature of team rules Return all signed papers to Mr. Henry in room 262 by Tues, March 3 rd in order to participate on the team. You CANNOT participate without all required paperwork turned in. If you are interested in getting a physical through school, you should contact Mr. Booth at [email protected] immediately.

2. PRACTICES: Practices will begin Wednesday, March 4th in Gym A/B. Stretching and warm-ups begin by 2:45. Practices will end approximately between 4:30 and 5:00. It is your responsibility to arrange a way back home.

3. CLOTHING: You need a good, comfortable pair of running shoes. Dress for the weather. Always have shorts, a t-shirt, sweat pants and sweat-shirt. Some runners may want to think about purchasing spikes as well. If you purchase new shoes, break them in before practice begins.

4. LOCKERS: You are responsible for your belongings. Lockers are available, but you need to bring your own lock. Leaving valuable possessions in book bags and out in the open is an invitation for trouble. Keep the locker room in order. Food and drink are not permitted in the gym or locker room area.

5. ATTENDANCE: You are expected to be at every practice and no unexcused absences are permitted. Please get a note when getting to practice late or getting extra help from your teachers. Without notes you may be suspended from participating in meets and/or dismissed from the team. Please make every effort to schedule doctor appointments, music lessons, and other outside activities so that they do not conflict with practice. If you participate with another team besides Haverford, remember that HMS comes first. If you miss practice(s) you may not get to participate in that week’s meet, especially in relays.

6. TRACK MEETS: Meets run from 3:30 to 5:00ish. We usually return from away meets to HMS between 5:30 and 6:00. Plan to be picked up around these times. We discourage leaving meets early so you can cheer on the team.

7. BEHAVIOR: Proper behavior is expected at all times, at practice and during home and away meets. School rules apply during sporting competitions. If you make a poor decision, you will be written up and referred to your grade level administrator – so make good decisions!
