Youth Council 1/30/12 Meeting Minutes

Members signed in with Secretary Molly Walker. Excused: Harmony; not excused: Alexandra, Anissa, Caroline T., Macayla, Paxton & Tristen Moseley President Cameron Watson called the meeting to order at 7:03 PM.

Chairs Kena Patel and Danielle Aguiar spoke about the Old Courthouse Theatre project where we will usher for To Kill a Mockingbird (OCT: 49 Spring St. NW), February 9, 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25 at 7:15 PM; February 12, 19, and 26 at 1:45 PM. 4 ushers are needed per night. Chair Griffin Fiedler spoke about the Blankets for Jeff Gordon Children’s Hospital. 10 blankets were made before the meeting. Sarah A. & Alexa volunteered to go with him to take them to JGCH.

City Council Meetings at 6:00 PM, 2nd Thursday of every month, Municipal Building at 26 Union Street S. You must attend one if you have not already done so. They are listed on the updated calendar! We reviewed points requirement: 125 points from 6/1-12/31; 125 points from 1/1-5/19 (NOTE: Points DO NOT carry over from semester to semester!)

Valentines 2 Seniors chair Madison Walker: time and location info will be given on 2/13.

Community Free Clinic, Chair: Rebecca Skahen. Rebecca will confirm with Debbie who volunteered on 1/17

Church of God Children’s Home, 1/21, 1:30-4:30 PM, 3485 Orphanage Circle, Chair: Harmony. Harmony was sick, so Danielle spoke about the experience of working with the children and reported that the event was very successful. Attended by: Joseph, Grant, Matt H., Jairus, Cal, Alexa, Mercedes, Madison W., Brianna, Danielle, and Caroline T.

SYC Team Building/Leadership Conference, 1/27-1/29, hosted by Greensboro Youth Council. John Eury spoke about the conference and the things he learned while reflecting on the camaraderie built during the weekend. Elections for the 2012-2013 officers will be held 3/12! Those interested in running for an office should email Debbie with your preference by MIDNIGHT 2/29. Interviews will be held the week before elections.

New newsletter, Community Ties, has been created by a new committee under Promotions/Marketing. Editor Rachel Jones spoke about the newsletter; staff includes Anna, Dylan, Mercedes, Cal, Sarah A. You are encouraged to contribute!

Dog Park and Skate Park committees. Those interested in being on the committees met with Taylor after the meeting.

Please remember to wear your Youth Council shirt to all events and projects!

Next meeting will be February 13, 7:00 PM at the Police Station.
