A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor of Pearl Fraley Lowe upon the occasion of her one hundred and fifth birthday. The snows of time upon one's head remind us that those points of earth are whitest which are nearest to heaven, and no snow falls lighter than the snow of age, but none lies heavier, for it never melts. WHEREAS, Pearl Fraley Lowe was born on February 26, 1897, in Harlan County, Kentucky, where she resides today; and WHEREAS, Pearl Fraley Lowe was the devoted wife of the late Willie Wesley Lowe whom she married on June 15, 1914, in Kitts, Kentucky; and WHEREAS, Pearl Fraley Lowe was the loving mother of a son, who passed in infancy, and two daughters, Marianne Estelle and Lola, both deceased; and she is the loving mother of two surviving daughters, Juanita Jones of Harlan and Ruby Cornett of Eagle Lake, Florida; she is the adored grandmother of six grandchildren, and she is the maternal ancestor of fifteen great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Pearl Fraley Lowe has lived during three centuries, and she has seen and experienced great social and technological changes, including the introduction of radio, television, airplanes, space travel and the advent of computers, and she has also lived through eighteen presidents, the Great Depression and two World Wars; she recalls the first time her father took her to Harlan to introduce her to the new Edison light bulb, and she reminisces about visiting a Civil War battlefield in Mississippi with relatives; and WHEREAS, Pearl Fraley Lowe has lived an active and productive life, and she continues to serve as a source of love and inspiration to all those whose joy it is to know her; and she is an admirer of poetry, reading and reciting it on a daily basis, as well as reading the newspaper and working crossword puzzles; and WHEREAS, Pearl Fraley Lowe will be one hundred and five young years of age on February 26, 2002, and to celebrate this glorious event, her friends and relatives will host a Reception and Open House in her honor on Saturday, February 23, 2002, from 11:00

a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Harlan Nursing Home; NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: Section 1. The Senate does hereby extend its most sincere birthday greetings to Pearl Fraley Lowe upon the occasion of her one hundred and fifth birthday on February 26, 2002. We wish her continued good health and many more birthdays to come. Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor of Pearl Fraley Lowe upon the occasion of her one hundred and fifth birthday. Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Senator Daniel Mongiardo for presentation to Pearl Fraley Lowe, and a copy to the Harlan Nursing Home, P. O. Box 895, Harlan, Kentucky 40831.
