JOB TITLE: Clinical Technician DEPARTMENT: Medical REPORTS TO: Clinic Manager SUPERVISES: N/A FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt WORK STATUS: Full-Time

JOB OVERVIEW: Responsible for assisting in the care, treatment, and education of ophthalmology patients.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Under minimal supervision: 1. Conduct patient screening accurately and efficiently. 2. Conduct patient communication and education when applicable as directed 3. Regular and acceptable attendance is required per company policy and is a critical function of this position

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

1. Obtains patient history for medical records 2. Performs and records visual acuity, color vision, stereopsis, and intraocular pressures as directed by the physicians. 3. Documents all information in paper chart or EHR in accordance with clinic guidelines. 4. Educates/informs patients about planned treatments or procedures. 5. Handles patient questions during visits and via phone, providing advice and resolving problems in consultation with ophthalmologist. 6. Maintains exam room order and inventory. 7. Maintains strictest patient confidentiality. 8. Other duties as assigned.

1 MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. JCAHPO, COA or MA certification required. Experience: Minimum of one year medical office experienced preferred; keyboarding ability of 45 wpm and word processing experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Knowledge of ophthalmic medical office procedures specific to the vitreo-retinal practice. 2. Knowledge of medical record requirements (HIPAA). 3. Ability to use communication/listening skills and telephones techniques effectively. 4. Ability to remain calm and function effectively in emergency situations.

OTHER ABILITIES:

1. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. 2. Ability to establish and maintain courteous and professional working. relationship with physicians, other staff and patients. 3. Ability to work as a team member. 4. Ability to work on several projects simultaneously. 5. Able to communicate clearly with patients and co-workers in spoken English. 6. Regular travel to and from all satellite locations.

PHYICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:

1. Prolong standing; infrequent bending, twisting, stooping. 2. Ability to assist patients in emergency situations including assisted falls to minimize impact, in an unplanned descent to the floor. 3. Occasional stress from work, volume, or from dealing with stressed patients or emergency situation. 4. Normal vision and hearing required. 5. May lift up to 10lbs.

Regular travel to and from all satellite locations. Hours may vary based on or adjusted to non-clinic hours based on need.
