Ruby Jewel “Timms” Price exemplifies what we know to be characteristics of an excellent teacher, believing that all children can and will learn provided the opportunity. She is incredibly devoted to teaching and learning for all students. Ruby understands the importance of well educated students that will be productive, problem solving members of society. Her determination to create well educated individuals still flows through every vein in her body. One of her famous quotes is, "all children are special and all children can learn." She not only believes this, she lives it by sharing her knowledge with every person, during every encounter. Everyone is one of her children and she believes that each one of us can learn something from her.
This past year we have had the opportunity to spend time with Ruby, and we have learned more than we could ever imagine. One valuable lesson is her dedication to community. Her sincere efforts to create a better community, nation, and world is beyond belief. She will write letters, do public speaking, make phone calls, become a member of a committee, teach, whatever it takes to become a voice to create a positive change. Ruby is an inspiration to be the change we all need to become.
On March 28, 2011, Davis School District chose to honor Ruby for her contribution to the education of Davis Children. Not only was she a master teacher, she was the first African American teacher hired in the district , setting the precedence for hiring practices in Davis County. She has been an example to all students to stay true to yourself, and be the change you want to see happen. Davis District has humbly named their diverse teacher scholarship after Ruby. The Ruby Jewel “Timms” Price Diversity Scholarship, in partnership with SLCC, provides four students of diverse backgrounds with tuition to attend SLCC in order to pursue a career in education. Davis School District, through donations, provides the $2000.00 per student for fees and materials.
We would like to continue honoring Ruby Price for her vital contribution to education and the community by supporting four students of diverse backgrounds, each year, to continue Ruby's legacy of learning. If you would be willing to contribute to this effort, please send your contribution to:
