WHEREAS, It is with great pride that the Texas Senate welcomes Michelle Hatmaker, Mrs. Texas 1993, on her visit to the capital city, May 26 and 27, 1993; and WHEREAS, A 31-year-old Galveston community leader, Mrs. Hatmaker was crowned Mrs. Texas 1993 on February 1 at a pageant in Houston; and WHEREAS, Michelle Hatmaker is a woman of many talents who has learned to artfully balance a multifaceted career and family life; she is married to Dr. Roy Hatmaker, a chiropractic physician, and the couple has two sons, Daniel, age 9, and Jonathan, age 5; and WHEREAS, Well known as an active civic leader, Michelle devotes much of her time to organizations that serve the community; formerly the public relations chairperson for the Rotary Club, she is a member of the Junior League, serves on the Board of Directors of the West Isle Little League, and is on the Board of Trustees of United Way; and WHEREAS, She also takes an active role in her husband's practice, using her paralegal training when she deals with insurance companies, workers' compensation, and attorneys; and WHEREAS, In addition to her many commitments in Galveston, Mrs. Hatmaker travels the State of Texas making volunteer appearances at civic, cultural, and charitable events; and WHEREAS, Gracious, charming, and hardworking, Michelle Hatmaker is an exemplary lady who has brought pride to her family and to the State of Texas; in October of this year, Michelle will represent the State of Texas in the Mrs. America Pageant; and WHEREAS, Accomplished, intelligent, generous, and compassionate, Michelle Hatmaker is a role model for us all, and her worthy endeavors in the community reflect her dedication to others and to the State of Texas; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 73rd Legislature, hereby extend hospitality and a warm welcome to Michelle Hatmaker, Mrs. Texas 1993, and congratulate her on her exceptional achievements; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
