RICHARD L. FRIEDMAN
Richard L. Friedman is the President and CEO of Carpenter & Company, Inc. of Cambridge, Massachusetts, a private firm specializing in real estate and private investments. Carpenter is regarded as one of the foremost real estate investment and development firms in America and has been a highly successful business since the 1960s. Carpenter’s flagship east coast real estate project is the Charles Hotel project in Harvard Square, Cambridge, Massachusetts, and on the west coast, the St. Regis Hotel and Condominiums project in San Francisco, California. Non real estate investments are in varied industries and businesses.
In 2000, Mr. Friedman was appointed by President William J. Clinton as Chairman of the National Capital Planning Commission and continues to work with its Interagency Security Task Force. The National Capital Planning Commission is the federal government’s central planning agency for Washington, DC and portions of Maryland and Virginia. Mr. Friedman holds appropriate level security clearances from the U.S. Government. In 2010, Mr. Friedman was appointed by President Barack Obama to the President’s Export Council. President Obama announced an effort in his State of the Union Address to improve advocacy for US exporters, remove trade barriers, and enforce trade rules in an effort to ensure that the benefits of global trade are broadly shared and the President’s Export Council will offer advice on how to meet these goals.
