Walden-CAN Executive Meeting May 9, 2011 @ 7:00 pm Naughton Community Centre

In Attendance: Neeltje Van Roon Dale Kilbey Ralph Shore Marc Morin Gord Key René Trottier Gwen Doyle Councillor Jacques Barbeau Forbes Stoodley Community Members

1. Welcome and introductions by Neeltje Van Roon.

2. Presentation by Stephen and Marilyn Butcher Re: Walden TODAY. The new Walden monthly newspaper.  It will be a monthly newspaper.  Possibility of combining with the Walden-CAN Newsletter.  The first issue is currently at 20 pages.  Send inquiries to [email protected].  Send articles in black and white and in .pdf format.

3. Councillor Jacques Barbeau’s Report  There are some new runs being made by Sudbury Transit.  A public information session will be held on a bus in front of Battistelli’s on May 24th.  In July, Sudbury Transit will be 100% accessible which will help to alleviate the pressure on Handi-Transit.  Fairbanks Road: It is in bad quality because of hauling.  ATV bylaw passed @ council.

4. Health Services Report by Gord Key.  The Family Health Team continues to add patients.  They are now accepting patients from all over Sudbury  The official grand opening is set for May 25th at 2:00pm  The Minister of Health will be visiting on June 16th, 2011.

5. CAN Annual AGM  Attended by Dale, Gwen, and Neeltje  It was interesting to see what other CAN’s were doing (i.e. Community Gardens).

6. Communications Report by Gwen Doyle  See Hand-Out

7. Open Forum on Community Issues  Cell phone accessibility: We are waiting for a meeting with a local representative.

8. Conflicts of Interest.  None

9. Treasurer’s Report by Rene Trottier

A - Balance Forward: from April 11, 2011: $1,987.66

B - Revenues: Interest: April 30, 2011: $0.19

C - Total: (A+B)______$1,987.85

D - Expenses: Neeltje Van Roon: Business Expenses: $82.48

Total expenses for period: April 11, 2011 –May 08, 2011 : $84.48

10. Old Business.  The youth survey will be presented at a later date.  It was decided that the CAN will buy a tent to set-up at the AFM Fall Fair.

11. New Business.  Neeltje sent flowers to Brenda Salo. Brenda is doing well.  Dale Kilbey has made business cards for the Walden-CAN.

12. The next meeting is scheduled to be a strategy session and will be held on June 13, 2011 at Forbes Stoodley’s home.  We will be looking to have more direction in our business and determine the future role in the community.
