During her tenure at Clemson she 32 maintained a 3.66/4.0 Overall GPA, with a 3.97/4.0 Major GPA. 33 She plans to return to Clemson University in the future and earn a 34 Master’s Degree in Business Administration; and 35 36 Whereas, Miss Willis’ other accomplishments include: Miss 37 Clemson University 1993; Opening act for Bob Hope and singing 38 back-up for Barry Manilow; winner of Mastercard American 39 Collegiate Talent Search at Clemson University; and serving on 40 the Board of the Kershaw Center Disabilities Foundation; and, 41
1 [3823] 1 1 Whereas, Miss Willis’ main platform issue is promoting the 2 awareness of and support for the mentally and physically 3 challenged. She feels that despite the Americans with Disability 4 Act, adults with mental and physical disabilities continue to face 5 barriers in American work places and neighborhoods, both 6 attitudinal and physical barriers are preventing individuals with 7 disabilities from working and living in our communities as we do. 8 She has promoted this platform issue by raising $79,473 and 9 devoted 873 hours for these individuals’ special needs; adopting a 10 multi-handicapped child (Christopher) and meeting his special 11 needs to help him become a “winner” and reach his full potential 12 as a member of society; and in collaboration with the Kershaw 13 County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs, has helped 14 construct a greenhouse which will provide job training and 15 opportunities for people with disabilities for many years to come; 16 and 17 18 Whereas, Miss Willis is presently employed as Director of 19 Community Relations for BI-LO Center; and 20 21 Whereas, Miss Willis’ aspirations for the future are to pursue a 22 career in the sports and entertainment industry; and 23 24 Whereas, Wendy Willis is not only brilliant in the academic 25 sphere, she is also a caring and generous human being of 26 deeply-rooted family values and impeccably high standards; and 27 28 Whereas, we are extremely proud of Wendy Willis and are 29 delighted to recognize our “Miss South Carolina” who is a 30 goodwill ambassador and role model for our State and a 31 representative of the Palmetto State who is making a difference. 32 Now, therefore, 33 34 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate 35 concurring: 36 37 That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South 38 Carolina, by this resolution, extend their best wishes and heartfelt 39 congratulations to our current “Miss South Carolina”, Wendy 40 Willis of Fountain Inn, on the special occasion of “Miss South 41 Carolina Appreciation Day”. 42
