JOB TITLE: EDUCATION MANAGER Full time REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF ARTISTIC ADMINISTRATION January 2012
DESIRED QUALITIES/EXPERIENCE:
An undergraduate degree with experience in music education and/or the development and presentation of orchestral education program. Considerable understanding of relevant educational standards, practices and curricula with a background in music and significant knowledge of orchestral repertoire is extremely desirable.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Education Programs Plan and implement all aspects of the ASO’s education and outreach programs, including Youth Orchestra, Young People’s Concerts, Tour Concerts, Guest Artist master classes, and education programming as assigned. Assess effectiveness of each activity. Use creativity and innovation in developing new programs that attempt to incorporate current education and technological initiatives and cultivate new community partnerships. Work in conjunction with schools and other partners to develop all material used in teacher training, musician training, volunteer training, and student preparation for education programs. Oversee the work of any outside contractors in the development of these materials. In consultation with the Marketing Director, oversee the marketing and ticketing for all educational programs, including brochures, newsletters, flyers, and advertisements as necessary. Cultivate and maintain professional relationships with the local school district, community colleges, and other education/civic institutions. Act as the primary spokesperson for the ASO in education matters.
Budget and Planning Work with the Executive Director, Director of Artistic Administration, Music Director and Board in establishing appropriate education and outreach goals for the ASO. In consultation with the Executive Director and Director of Artistic Administration, develop programs and plans for achieving those goals Coordinate all activities with the ASO master calendar in consultation with Director of Artistic Administration and Director of Operations. Develop budgets for each program; monitor the progress of each and adjust plans as necessary. Identify education trends that may present new opportunities for the ASO. Administrative Collaborate with the Development Director in developing funding proposals for ongoing and new educational initiatives. Collaborate with the Marketing Director and Director of Operations in the implementation of all education programs; coordinate with other ASO activities. In consultation with the Music Director and Director of Artistic Administration, direct the orchestra musicians’ involvement in ensemble events sponsored by or supporting the ASO’s education efforts. Hire, train, manage, and evaluate the performance of all education staff, including interns and volunteers.
Other Attend concert of local school groups; act as a liaison between ASO and community education institutions. Keep abreast of recent research on music education; maintain a collection of current resource materials. Perform other duties as required.
