9.2 PCAV are giving away free family tickets to Equitana. Go to the PCAV website.

9.3 Question raised about members wanting to take a combination to a different Club for a qualification. Does it have to be on the same rally day – ideally but there are reasons for exceptions. Any combination can only attend one rally a month. Need to have two rallies at home Club to have a grading. Clubs are encouraged to read the by-laws. In addition, only state qualifiers can be used as a rally or some actual Page | 3 Central Zone of Pony Clubs Inc. Reg.No A0026915H 3 June 2014 Zone Minutes training days. Again, read the by-laws.

9.4 Lancefield wanted to remind Clubs the importance of filling in cards correctly – it can be distressing to riders that have entered competitions to find their cards are not correctly completed and the combination is not eligible to compete.

9.5 Truganina PC wanted to thanks the CZ for running the information night for new Club Execs – it was a great night and very informative.

9.6 Thanks to Sandra Rowley for completing the 2012 and 2013 audits for the CZ.

No other business without notice.

Meeting closed at 9.25pm

Zone Rep Report June 3 2014

PCAV State Council meeting April 15, 2014 The summary of decisions for this meeting has been published on the PCAV website.

PCAV Dressage Arena Congratulations to Truganina PC for being successful in their application to receive one of the dressage arenas that PCAV had acquired to help small clubs.

2015 Dressage and Showjumping State Championships These Championships will be hosted by West Gippsland Zone and held on February 21 & 22. Venue not yet decided.

Flat Team of Four, Musical Ride and Games Championships

We had our qualifiers for the Games and Flat Teams Champs in April, again ably hosted by Oaklands PC. Many thanks to Renae McKeever and her team from Oaklands, who set up the grounds magnificently. We are also indebted to Sue Hollins (event coordinator) and Lisa Kennedy (entry secretary), who put in hours of work behind the scenes to organise the day, to Jenni Waldhauser who checked cards and scored and to Ann Bush who organised all the entry paperwork. An on-going job. Congratulations to the Macedon A&B and Oaklands Games teams; to the Flat Teams of Four from Gisborne A&B and Macedon; to the Pairs Teams from Kyneton and Macedon and to the Musical Ride teams from Kyneton and Kilmore who will be representing Central Zone at the State Championships at Bacchus Marsh on June 14 and 15. The detailed results are on the website.

State Grades 1 & 2 Horse Trials Championships

On the first weekend in May, Central Zone hosted the State HT Championships at Riddells Creek. Despite the cold, it was a great success and everyone involved should be proud of our efforts. There is a detailed report in this month’s MAD magazine.

Strength Returns The due date for Strength Returns to PCAV was May 31, so hopefully all are in now. Please also remember to up-date your club officials on the PCAV website through MyClub. PCAV won’t do it for you unless you ask. There are 4 clubs whose 2015 memberships don’t show on the database, but hopefully they chose to post in the return in hardcopy. Otherwise, if any club secretary needs help, please ask one of the zone executive (they have all “been there, done that”), or phone Vicki at the PCAV office. Your riders may be at risk of not receiving their 2014-2015 attendance cards in good time. This is also a good time to review the WWC cards of your instructors and ensure they are listed as “Service Providers” in the data base. Returns to Consumer Affairs are due 30 days after the AGM, so they should also have been completed. Note that a Public Officer is no longer designated by Consumer Affairs and the club secretary should send in the return. For clubs who name their Treasurer as Public Officer, this anomaly will be address when PCAV provides us with Model Rules to up-date Constitutions later in the year. If any club has had a radical turnover of committee members and lost their Constitution, I have a copy for each club.

Up-coming events PCAV Interzone Teams Horse Trials. This event is for grade 3&4 riders. Riders are placed in teams by the zone and the zone with the best team scores wins the shield. Riders are

Page | 10 Central Zone of Pony Clubs Inc. Reg.No A0026915H 3 June 2014 Zone Minutes now required in the PCAV rules to qualify by competing in at least two events in their grade without elimination and with no more than 60 penalty points on the XC. (This was previously a CZ rule.) This is to ensure that riders are ready to compete at State level and that the State Competitors badge is well-earned. As for all state competitions, riders over 14 must have their C certificate. Individual entries should be sent to CZ and are due on Friday, June 13. Entry forms specific for our zone can be downloaded from the CZ website. Please advise your riders to not use the generic forms on the PCAV website. This state event is organised in a similar way to the zone events, and every entered rider can expect to be asked to provide a volunteer helper for at least a 2 hr commitment over the weekend.

CZ Interclub Horse Trials This event will be hosted by Melton PC on August 31. Unfortunately, we couldn’t fit it in early enough in the year to use as a qualifier for the 2014 Interzone HT, but it can be used for 2015. Also for the 2015 State HT Champs. Riders should enter as individuals to this event, but their placing points will contribute to their club score - like for the Lowden and the Fimister. Riders from other zones have been allowed to compete but only a CZ club can win the shield – generously sponsored by Equestrian Club Supplies. We also have body protectors for the winners of each section – sponsored by the Childs family. A new award last year was the Mathew Slade Memorial Trophy – to go to the winner of the highest grade. Mathew actively participated in many PC activities and here we are remembering his performance at grade 1 PC Horse Trials. Please remember that at a zone event, every club is rostered to provide volunteers to help on the day. It is expected that the club will try to spread the duties as evenly as possible. Furthermore, a Horse Trials event needs many more helpers than any other type of competition. It is a rule of thumb that e very parent of a child who competes at a horse trials or any Zone competition must expect to be given a job on the day. Please reinforce this message at club level. Most parents (and relatives and friends) are wonderfully generous with their time but it is the occasional whinger that we remember and who spoils the day.

Eventing clinic. Planning is underway for an eventing clinic to be held in the term 2 holidays, Thursday/Friday, July 10/11 at Tullamarine. The timing of the clinic is designed to enable grade 3/4 riders who have entered the Interzones to improve their skills and get to know their other team members, but, in fact, riders in all grades are welcome. Watch the CZ website for details of coaches and the entry form.

Speed to Safety The dates for the CZ speed to Safety Training Days and Qualifiers have been set. The first training day was May 24 at Seymour Racecourse. Riders who missed this can still attend the next two and qualify for selection at the state final. See the CZ website for other dates and the entry form. Speed to Safety is an event that helps teach Pony Club riders the skill needed to ride at a given pace over a given distance. This skill is important for cross country riding and show jumping and can equip riders to be employed as track riders. • Sashes to 6th in each division. (Division comprises of grade 1&2, grade 3&4. Total 2 divisions). • $25 Ascot Saddlery Voucher to top 4 times over 3 training days • Perpetual Trophy / High point award for the club with the most points gained over 3 training days

Make sure to get your members involved!!!

Central Zone Presidents Report 3 June 2014

Sue Hollins is taking a well-earned break and is travelling for the next couple of months so I will be standing in for her over this period.

I firstly wanted to thank everyone involved in the recent State Horse Trails. The event was a great success and this was due to all of the hard work done behind the scenes by the organising committee, Riddells Creek Pony Club, the Clubs of CZ and the CZ Exec (you know who you are) who took a lead role in this event. I don't want to highlight any one individual for fear of missing someone, but we have received numerous congratulatory notes from both riders and other Zone officials and most of these specifically thank the catering team in particular who did an extraordinary job.

Since joining the Zone Exec last year I have really developed a new found appreciation of the tireless work the Zone Exec and seconded helpers do to provide clinics and events within the Zone. Most clubs struggle to organise 1 or 2 competitions a year, the CZ Exec organise at least 5 events and 3 clinics each year with a very small team of cheerful workers to do the work. I would like to encourage Club members to consider putting up their hands to assist the Zone committees or better still consider coming on board as a committee member.

The State Flat, pairs, Musical and Games Championships are on in 2 weekends time, CZ has 2 Pairs teams, 3 Flat teams, 2 Musical teams and 3 Games teams competing. We wish all of the team members all the best and hope they have a wonderful competition. Some of our riders at State are very young this year and it is great to see so many riders having a go, it is a wonderful experience to represent your Club and Zone at the State level

There are a couple of upcoming Zone events that clubs should be promoting  CZ School holiday Horse trails 10 & 11 July and Games 12th July clinics at Tullamarine Pony Club, flyers have been distributed to clubs  Interzone Horse Trials 26 & 27 July  Interzone Challenge Prince Philip Games 16& 17 Aug  CZ Horse Trails 31 Aug at Melton Pony Club
