Booker T. Washington Magnet High School Center for Advanced Technology AUDITION PROCEDURES

For All Magnets: 1. Read the audition preparation guidelines and follow them carefully. 2. If you must cancel your audition once it has been scheduled, please call 269-3617 as soon as possible. It is not always possible to reschedule a BTW audition. 3. Dress in neat, comfortable school clothes. 4. Bring a paragraph stating:  Why you wish to attend BTW  What you plan to contribute to the program  What you hope to gain from being in the program 5. Bring two (2) completed Teacher Recommendation forms in sealed envelopes. 6. Arrive 10 to 15 minutes before the scheduled time of your audition. See attached map for directions. 7. Once you reach your audition room, please sign the teacher's AUDITION LIST. 8. Be prepared to give the teacher the information requested below.

CAT:  Please bring a typed, double-spaced essay outlining either your computer science experience or your desire to enter this field.  You will be interviewed regarding your interest in the CAT component of BTW, as well as your commitment to it.  You will be asked to write a brief response to a prompt on an issue relative to technology.  You will be asked to complete a short test on your knowledge of math and technology.  Your interview will last approximately 30 minutes. The Center for Advanced Technology (CAT) is an experience based program for technology education. The classes are taught in technology labs with diversified hardware and software. The CAT magnet emphasizes learning skills that can be transferred to various software and hardware, rather than just training in a particular software package.

CAT I study topics include:  Advanced business applications using MS Office  Graphic design using Photoshop, Bryce, and Poser  Web design using html and Dreamweaver

CAT II study topics include:  Computer hardware with an emphasis on A+ Certification  Introduction to programming using Visual Basic with an emphasis on game writing

CAT III study topics include: Advanced programming concepts emphasizing game writing using:  Visual Basic  C++  Java

CAT IV students are given the opportunity to do intern work in various local businesses.
