Mar Vista Bi-Monthly LADOT/CD11/LAPD Traffic Committee Meeting July 15, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. West Los Angeles Office of CD11 Councilman Mike Bonin 1645 Corinth Ave., 2nd Floor, Los Angeles, CA 90025
AGENDA
Call to Order.
Approval of Minutes of May 20, 2015 meeting.
Agenda items for discussion are as follows.
LADOT Agenda Items Old Business – Progress Reports & Further Discussion of tabled items from the May 20th Meeting: Item #1: Follow-up report from Rudy Guevara re: North Westdale’s remaining traffic mitigation installation, the 3-way Stop at Stoner Ave. facing Gateway at the Radio Dr. intersection, as to whether all signs and pavement markings have been completed and the installation is now fully functional. [LADOT] Item #2: Updated reports from Rudy Guevara and Len Nguyen re: traffic control signs installed on streets adjacent to the Sunday Mar Vista Farmers Market, as to whether all the new signs changing enforcement time on Sundays from 7AM-4PM to 7AM-5PM have been or will soon be installed. [LADOT & CD11] Item #3: Progress report from Rudy Guevara as to whether installation of the LADOT-approved all-way STOP control at the intersection of Westminster and Wasatch Aves. has been finished, and if not, when completion is expected. [LADOT] Item #4: Follow-up report from Rudy Guevara re: his plan to study putting STOP signs on Frances Ave. at the northwest and southeast corners of Caswell Ave. to help control dangerous speeding on Frances between Pacific Ave. and Washington Pl., responding to a stakeholder request for the safety of motorists and pedestrians in that neighborhood. [LADOT]
New Business – Items for Discussion: Item #1: A stakeholder has asked for installation of STOP signs on both sides of Victoria Ave. where it crosses Barry Ave., creating an all-way STOP at this intersection. This request was made for safety reasons, because visibility problems prevent drivers stopped at the Barry Ave. STOP signs from seeing traffic crossing Barry on Victoria until they have already moved into the intersection, resulting in many accidents and near misses. [LADOT] Item #2: Request from a stakeholder that trees on the Rose Ave. hill be cut back to improve visibility of the 25 MPH signs on Rose Ave. between Morningside Dr. and Walgrove Ave. [LADOT] Item #3: A stakeholder requests that a left-turn signal, for left turns from westbound Rose Ave. south onto Walgrove Ave., be added to the traffic signal at the Rose/Walgrove intersection, to mitigate the frequent collision accidents which occur at this location. [LADOT]
Other Agenda Items: Old Business – Progress reports & Further Discussion of tabled items from the May 20th Meeting: Item #1: Follow-up report from Len Nguyen re: responses, if any, to his repeated requests to Caltrans to fix deep curbside potholes at the westbound bus stop on the northwest corner at the Venice Blvd. and Beethoven St. intersection that were not repaired by Caltrans when it repaved Venice Blvd. [CD11] Agenda – July 15, 2015 Mar Vista Bi-Monthly Traffic Committee Meeting – Page 2
Item #2: Follow-up report from Len Nguyen on whether pavement repairs at 12600 and 12607 and at 12574 and 12601 Rose Ave. where tree roots have grown through the pavement and create dangerous humps, will be scheduled and funded under “small asphalt repairs” in the new fiscal year budget. [CD11] Item #3: Follow-up report by Len Nguyen re: a request by the Pacific Condominium Assoc. for repairs to the alley from Wade to Beethoven Sts. behind 12731 Pacific Ave., as to whether the location is still on the “small asphalt repairs” waiting list and whether it is likely that category will be funded in the new fiscal year budget. [CD11] Item #4: Further follow-up from Len Nguyen re: the lack of signs at a small strip mall at the southwest corner of McLaughlin on Venice next to East Blvd. to limit entry from McLaughlin only and exit onto East Blvd. only to mitigate a traffic safety problem, and whether he has now received any response from the property owner about installing appropriate directional signs in this mall. [CD11] Item #5: Further follow-up report from Len Nguyen re: whether he has as yet received a response to his request to Caltrans for data explaining why the speed limit on Venice Blvd. through “downtown” Mar Vista is 40MPH (between Sepulveda and Walgrove) when it is 35MPH east of Sepulveda Blvd. and west of Walgrove Ave. [CD11]
New Business – Items for Discussion: Item #1: A stakeholder requests an LAPD presence to monitor traffic on Rose Ave. between Morningside Drive and Walgrove Ave. to warn and/or cite continually speeding drivers on this hill. [LAPD]
