UNIVERSITY OF HARTFORD STAFF ASSOCIATION MEETING MINUTES JANUARY 13, 2010, WOODS FAMILY CLASSROOM 1:00 PM

PRESENT: Jim Mello, Lynn Galvin, Laurie Fasciano, Evelyne Haldimann, Jennifer Keyo, Nancy Clubb, Barbara Dessureau, Cheryl MacMath, Lisa Parker, Samantha Cahill

MINUTES: Members in attendance approved the Staff Association minutes from November and December with one correction, the spelling of Bonny Stoecklin’s name.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

BTF Lynn Galvin reported that the committee is in the process of developing a calendar for this year. The only item that has been identified so far is looking at the tiers for medical insurance. BAT Evelyne Haldimann reported that BAT is in the process of reviewing a number of contingency plans, but that the exercise is complicated due in part to the fact that we do not have student numbers. WELNESS Barbara Dessureau assured us that the committee does still exist, however, it is on hold until HRD can resume participation. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT COUNCIL – No update to report

STAFF ASSOCIATION REPORTS

TREASURER The balance was $3611.80 and the expenditure for the month is $65.00 leaving a balance of $3546.80. AWARDS AND RECOGNITION – Jennifer Keyo presented us with packets of cards recognizing colleagues for going above and beyond. She will place an announcement about the cards in UNOTES and will also distribute them during lunch in GSU. EXECUTIVE BOARD CHARGES – The executive Board will look into Optimism and Positive Attitudes, Cross Training and Skill Building and Mentoring. Ideas for the above would be appreciated. One stop shopping as part of an orientation was mentioned by Evelyne Haldimann. AWARENESS/SHARING OF RESOURCES – There was some discussion as to how best to log in and share questions. It seems a blog might work. Lisa Parker will look into setting up a blog which Lynn Galvin will monitor. Stay tuned. SUSTAINABILITY – This committee is just getting started under the leadership of Laura Pence. Lisa will keep us posted. There is a web site; uhaweb.hartford.edu/sustain.

NEW BUSINESS Lisa Belanger indicated she would like to begin regular dialogue sessions with the association. Jim Mello will follow through with Lisa.

With the departure of Judy Chestnut there is a vacancy on the Executive Board. January 29th is the deadline for letters of interest.

The Executive Board will be meeting with President Harrison on January 19th. Communications is an issue that will be brought forward.

The Staff Association received thank you letters for the Faculty Staff Junior Support Scholarship. A discussion followed as many are un clear as to the particulars of this scholarship. Jen Keyo will research this.

Laurie Fasciano mentioned two upcoming basketball benefit events; Pink Zone on 2/21/10 at 2:00 pm and Coaches vs. Cancer on 1/23/10 at 1:00 pm. Tickets (up to eight) for faculty and staff are $5.00.
