Hood River County Education Foundation Innovative Teaching Grants 2018-19
The Hood River County Education Foundation is interested in funding innovative educator and/or student-designed projects that exemplify excellence in education.
Who is eligible to apply? Any Hood River County School District teacher, staff, employee or student is eligible to apply.
Deadlines and Timing Completed Applications must be received by the Foundation via electronic submission by 5:00 pm on Monday, January 8, 2018. Applications are to be e-mailed to ed . foundation @ hoodriver . k 12. or .us. Applicants will be notified in mid-February of the Board’s decision. Projects should be completed within one year of award. The decisions of the Board are final.
Size of Grant Awards will not exceed $2,000 per grant. No grant is too small - we especially love inexpensive AND innovative ideas!
What kinds of projects are we looking for? HRCEF wants to support projects that enrich student learning through direct academic benefit, staff development or non-academic learning opportunities. We are looking for innovative ideas that exhibit a creative or new approach, program, area of study, means of instruction, etc. that benefits students.
Grants will be considered based on breadth, depth or longevity of impact, as well. With limited funds raised primarily from individual donations, we seek projects that impact a large number of students (either at one time or over a number of years) OR that involve a unique depth for a smaller number of students. Cost-effectiveness will be judged on either low cost-per-student- impacted OR significant impact-per-student. Preference will be given to grants where two or more educators work together on a project, broadening the scope of impact and cost-effectiveness of grant monies.
Also aiming at cost-effectiveness, preference will be given to applications that leverage funds from more than one source. We do not fund projects that should be paid for out of school budgets. Specific questions about funding sources are asked in the Principal’s Approval section of the Application.
Ineligible Projects • Teaching grants will not be made to any fee-based programs. These include preschools, after- school care, and other programs requiring a fee. • We will not consider requests for salary or field trip expenses. • For professional development requests, the Foundation will only fund registration fees, not travel expenses or substitutes. These grants must include a discussion of how the applicant will share the information gained at the event with colleagues.
1009 Eugene Street, Hood River, Oregon 97031 1 [email protected] | 541-387-5713 | www.hrcef.org • If you have received a grant award in the past, you must submit a report on that grant before any new request will be considered. (Report Forms are available at www.hrcef.org >Grants>HRCEF Teacher Grant Report Form and due to the Foundation via email by 12/1/17.) • Preference will be given to new proposals for grants that have NOT been funded in the past (for the same or very similar project in the same classroom or school). Repeat grants will be considered, but new, innovative ideas will receive preference. • Incomplete grant applications will not be considered. All questions must be answered. A DETAILED budget with exact costs must be included in the proposal so that, if accepted, budget codes can be created directly from this application by the School District.
Other Information • Funds not utilized for the purposes specified in the application must be returned to the Foundation in a timely manner. They may not be re-allocated for any other purposes. • The Foundation reserves the right to use any project information in its promotional activities. • Grant recipients are highly encouraged to post photos and updates of their teaching grants in action to the HRCEF Facebook page or to otherwise submit them to the HRCEF.
