Spray Lake Sawmills Public Advisory Committee SLS Boardroom June 12, 2012

Present: Ed Kulcsar, Gord Lehn, Jennifer Koch, Judy Stewart, Sandra Foss, Harvey Buckley, Erik Butters, Liz Breaky, Natasha Kinloch, and Tim Giese.

Absent: Richard Righthand, Darryl Copithorne, and Morgan Kehr.

Invitation: June 20, 2012, Cochrane Ranch House invite from Harvey Buckley. Action for Agricultural session on Ecological Goods and Services.

Minutes  Approval of minutes from April 17th, 2011 meeting  Minutes already posted on SLS website.  Previously approved via e-mails.

Housekeeping Items  Jennifer Koch is relocating to Edmonton.  Gord Lehn is now Director of Communications and Ecological Goods and Services.  Ed Kulcsar is now Woodlands Manager.  In event of fire alarms use front or back exits. Meet at scale shack.

Update of PAC Membership / Terms of Reference  Discussion was held on PAC membership: o Do we have enough people at the table? o Do we have stakeholder gaps? o We want to be open, transparent and all inclusive. o Advertisements were run for 2 weeks looking for new members. No response received. o Membership options were reviewed. SLS will make contact.  FSC standards discussion. SRD’s role in dispute resolution.  Write a paragraph to include PAC as a sounding board for dispute resolution within PAC’s terms-of-reference.  Half day educational session for forestry. Annual workshop. Add to terms of reference. This will be by invitation.

Bragg Creek FHP / Beaver Mines FHP  Update provided on the statur of the Bragg Creek and Beaver Mines Harvest Plans.

Update of SLS Communications plan  Communications plan distributed. Provide feedback to Gord. Social Media  Tools o Facebook, YouTube, Blog, QR codes o Facebook purpose was not to have dialogue but to direct people to blog. o You Tube video clips to be developed. o QR codes will be phased in to provide linkages between communication methodologies.  Rotational schedule among managers to monitor sites.  Committee advised SLS to seek legal advice as to content.

General Development Plan  Overview map reviewed together with excel tables.  Questions and discussion over mountain pine beetle, sequencing changes among different years. Undercut noted.  Jumpingpound demonstration forest. Inquire with SRD about plans for the area.

Forest Stewardship Council Certification  PowerPoint Presentation was given to provide a summary of results.  Review Draft of SLS response in regards to FSC audit.

Operating Ground Rules (OGR)  During field trip there will be an opportunity to discuss OGR. Can see hands on application.  OGR discussion postponed until field trip.  Revisions to OGRs are posted on the Environment and Sustainable Resource Development (ESRD) website.

PAC Field Trip  Requesting input for PAC field trip.  Active Operations, riparian buffers and stream crossings.  Set up field trip for beginning of August 2012. Could view operations in Bragg Creek.  Close to town. Allow 6 hour window for field trip.

Next Meeting  To be determined.  Potentially August field trip.
