I will cope with the changing diversity by using Banks’ five key dimensions of multicultural education. The five dimensions are content integration, knowledge construction, equity pedagogy, prejudice reduction, and an empowering school culture. These five concepts will give me ideas on how to make school easier for children of different cultures. I will use these ideas when speaking, teaching, disciplining, and playing games. A simple example would be just greeting people properly. My main goal would be to make multicultural education a norm in the classroom so that my students become accustomed to it.

Relationships are extremely important. I want my relationships with my students to be open and comfortable. I will use content integration when giving examples. I will use names and pictures from different cultures in my oral examples or visual presentations. I will put up posters of different cultures on one of my bulletin boards to make the idea open to discussion. I will use knowledge construction to teach students the different cultures' struggles so that they can see their lives through different perspectives. Equity pedagogy will be in my head every time I step up to speak. I need to keep in mind that my students will naturally think and learn differently based on where they come from or their background. Prejudice reduction will be essential to administer in my classroom. I want my students to see differences in one another and realize that is okay. They will all learn, interact, and play with each other. And, finally, an empowering school culture will take effect. I do not want my students to be separated based on skill and ability all the time. I will have high expectations for every one of my students. Differentiating my students based on a multitude of factors will reduce the risk of students feeling inferior to one another. In conclusion, multicultural education is an extremely important aspect of classroom management. I believe it will strengthen my relationships with my students. Banks’ five components- content integration, knowledge construction, equity pedagogy, prejudice reduction, an empowering school culture- will be in my mind when both designing my classroom and presenting information to my students.
