Activity 1b – Level 2 Application of Number (N2.2.1)

Skills tested: -Converting measurements between systems -Carrying out calculations of two or more steps with numbers of any size with or without a calculator -Understand and use given formulae -Work with and convert between fraction, decimals and percentages -Repetition of method application -Repetition of method checking

Activity 1c – Level 2 Information and Communication Technology (ICT.2.3)

Skills tested: -Understanding how information can be presented to suit purpose and audience - identifying presentational inconsistencies

Skills tested: -Search for and select information to meet your needs -begin to engage with concept of multiple search criteria

Extensions

Each Flash activity contains a link to 2 further extension activities. They are intended as a resource bank for tutors and can be used as read or tailored for specific projects. They offer opportunity for students to develop Level 2 Key Skills and can be used to fulfil other QCA criteria in Application of Number, Communication and Information and Communication Technology. There are plenty of opportunities within the extension activities tom produce combined portfolios within these 3 key areas. They also offer opportunities to demonstrate skills in other areas such as Working with Others and Problem Solving.

In addition to the main Flash activities, the extension tasks give students the opportunity to demonstrate a range of skills within Level 2. These include:

Communication

- produce documents such as letters, memos and reports - Present information in a format that suits your purpose - Use a structure and style of writing to suit purpose - Using paragraphs, headings and subheadings to structure material - Make meaning clear - Presenting arguments within a discussion - summarise, develop points and focus on purpose - Speak clearly in a way that suits your subject, purpose and situation - Use appropriate techniques to support your main points

Application of number

- Engage with the Collect – Process – Interpret information cycle - Obtaining information from a variety of resources - select effective ways to present findings such as charts and graphs - construct and use charts and graphs - compare sets of data

Information and Communication Technology

- Search for and select information to meet your needs - Use different information sources and multiple search criteria - Enter and develop information - Derive new information - Present combined information such as text with image - demonstrate consistent use of formats
