McNally was told of her wild card during an appearance at the Western & Southern Open First Look presented by First Financial Bank at the Lytle Park Hotel in Cincinnati. This season, Madeira’s McNally reached the quarterfinals in Guadalajara while also advancing to the Round of 16 on two other occasions. In 2020, she reached the third round at the US Open, and in the previous season posted her career-best WTA singles result with a semifinal in Washington, D.C. The 19-year-old who will be playing the Western & Southern Open for a third time owns a pair of titles at ITF events. McNally has enjoyed a great deal of professional success in doubles, winning four titles already, including a pair in 2021. Three of those titles have come in partnership with 17-year-old Coco Gauff, with whom she has reached a pair of Australian Open quarterfinals. As a junior in 2018, McNally was runner-up at the French Open, losing to Gauff, and a quarterfinalist at Wimbledon. She also won the junior doubles title at the US Open (w/ Gauff) and French Open (w/Iga Swiatek) that same season. McNally joins a field that includes the Top 20 players in the WTA Rankings. The full WTA field, which was announced prior to the First Look presented by First Financial Bank event, includes five former Western & Southern Open winners and 13 Major champions.

  • Panasonic Announces Signing of Professional Women's Tennis Player Naomi Osaka As Brand Ambassador
Jun 24, 2021 Panasonic Announces Signing of Professional Women's Tennis Player Naomi Osaka as Brand Ambassador Osaka, Japan - Panasonic Corporation has signed a brand ambassador agreement with professional women's tennis player Naomi Osaka. The period of agreement is two years starting from April 22, 2021. Panasonic sought the agreement with Ms. Osaka after observing that her values and perspectives on society deeply resonate with its own management philosophy, primarily with regard to the following three points: First, Ms. Osaka takes social issues seriously, looking beyond tennis to share her views on what a better society would look like in her own words. The founder of Panasonic, Konosuke Matsushita, held the notion that a stable state of happiness comes only when both mental stability and material prosperity are secured. Based on this idea, the company endeavors to create an ideal society where all of us can enjoy lives that are both mentally fulfilling and affluent in the material sense. Second, Ms. Osaka's intense and powerful playing is a source of energy and courage for people all over the world. Panasonic has passed down the founder’s view that the mission of an enterprise is to achieve a prosperous society and to make people happy, and continues to work toward fulfilling a strong aspiration not only to provide products needed by society, but also to make customers who use them feel happy and uplifted. And third, Ms. Osaka continues to grow and evolve as her magnificent track record being one of the world’s top athletes is the result of her tireless efforts to refine each and every move in the course of her daily training and matches.

  • Teenage Tennis Players with the Best Chance to Become Grand Slam Champions
Teenage Tennis Players with the Best Chance to Become Grand Slam Champions Could American Taylor Fritz be another Juan Martin del Potro? Is Borna Coric the next Novak Djokovic? Will Switzerland's Belinda Bencic one day hoist as many major trophies as her compatriot Martina Hingis? Could Naomi Osaka surpass Kei Nishikori as Japan's best hope of winning a Grand Slam? Simply being one of the highest-ranked teens on the ATP World Tour or WTA Tour doesn't automatically qualify a player as a future Slam winner. American Catherine Bellis is having her best year and is ranked No. 115. However, she doesn't make the list because she lacks the size and serve of what has become the prototypical Slam winner in the women's game. So, who are the quick studies? The following are teenagers with the best chance of becoming Grand Slam champions. Jelena Ostapenko, Francis Tiafoe and Jared Donaldson get honorable mentions. Latvia's Ostapenko, 19, is ranked No. 46. This year she reached the final in Doha, Qatar, and has wins over Caroline Wozniacki, Petra Kvitova and Svetlana Kuznetsova. Nina Pantic of Tennis.com wrote, "The 5'10" Ostapenko has an aggressive baseliner’s style of play, combined with just enough patience to wait for the right opportunity." Tiafoe, 18, is among a handful of players hoping to end the Grand Slam drought for American men. After surviving a five-set match against Tiafoe at the U.S. Open, John Isner told reporters the teen's "backhand is world-class," per ESPN's Greg Garber.

  • Press Release 21 April 2021
Press Release 21 April 2021 44th Porsche Tennis Grand Prix – Summary Day 5 Comfortable start for Ashleigh Barty – Angelique Kerber also advances Stuttgart. Ashleigh Barty has started her Porsche Tennis Grand Prix campaign with a comfortable win, something that can be expected of a world No. 1. In her first singles on Centre Court in the Porsche Arena, the Australian overcame the local hero Laura Siegemund in straight sets 6-0, 7-5. The win on Wednesday has put the top favourite, who is making her debut in Stuttgart, in the quarterfinals. She has been joined in the round of the last eight by the Estonian Anett Kontaveit after her surprising 7-5, 6-4 triumph against the American Sofia Kenin and the title holder Petra Kvitova from the Czech Republic who edged past the Greek Maria Sakkari in a tight three-setter, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Angelique Kerber is not quite so far down the road yet, but the Porsche Brand Ambassador is on the right track. In cruising to a 6-2, 6-2 success against the lucky loser Ekaterine Gorgodze from Georgia, she has got off to a good start at the tournament she won in 2015 and 2016. “It’s great being back here,” she said after her opening victory. “The Porsche Tennis Grand Prix is my home tournament.
