Produced and co-written by Nickesha Briscoe and Rafael Akigny from The Outsyders, the song was to be rewritten after a fragment leaked online. Womanizer is a top-top and electropop song with characteristic sirens and a recurring hook. Described by Spears as a girl's anthem, the lyrics are reminiscent of a womanizing man, while the main character of the song makes it clear that she knows who he really is. Womanizer has been well received by contemporary critics, with critics praising her hook and lyrics, viewing it as a unique return to Spears. Womanizer has been a commercial success, reaching the top of duty in Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Norway, Sweden and the United States.
