Quality of Water in Chandigarh (Panchkula and Mohali Region)
International Journal of Civil Engineering and Technology (IJCIET) Volume 7, Issue 4, July-August 2016, pp. 539–541 Article ID: IJCIET_07_04_050 Available online at http://iaeme.com/Home/issue/IJCIET?Volume=7&Issue=4 ISSN Print: 0976-6308 and ISSN Online: 0976-6316 © IAEME Publication QUALITY OF WATER IN CHANDIGARH (PANCHKULA AND MOHALI REGION) Raman deep Singh Bali Department of Civil Engineering, Chandigarh University, Gharuan, Mohali, India Puneet Sharma Assistant professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Chandigarh University, Gharuan, Mohali, India ABSTRACT As we know among all the natural resources water is one of the most important resource which cannot be neglected. So it is essential to know the water method for sources time to time for the calm change. About 97% of the earth’s surface is covered by water and about 60-65% of water is present in the animal and plant bodies. 2.4% are present on glaciers and polar ice caps. Heavy metals can be found in industrial waste water are deemed undesirable. Exposure of heavy metals in environment degrades the ecosystem which harms the inhabitants. In this paper various parameters have been discussed such as hardness, cadmium, magnesium, chromium, arsenic, iron, calcium, BOD, COD, TDS, pH, conductivity, and temperature for this review study. In this paper nature of ground water, surface water of Chandigarh adjacent areas, for example, Parwano, S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) have been discussed on the premise of reports accessible online. However, not a lot of studies have been coordinated to check the water way of this area but on the basis of available information, it was found that that the water quality in a portion of the spots is underneath the benchmarks of water quality endorsed by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).Appropriate working of Sewerage Treatment Plants (STPs) should be checked also, Industrial waste ought to be appropriately treated before setting off to the catchment ranges. -

1. Introduction
1. Introduction Gurdaspur is a flood prone district as it is surrounded by river Ravi, Beas and other small rivulets. Dhussi Bandh has been constru cted along river Ravi and Beas in length of 164000 ft. and 129500 ft. respectively. There are certain very sensitive/vulnerable points where the gushing water cause breaches in Dhussi Bandh and heavy flooding of the area. Years 1988 and 1995 witnessed heavy floods in Gurdaspur District which caused loss of lives, crops and property and infrastructure. River Ravi has its origin and catchment area in Himachal Pradesh and enters Punjab just upstream of Ranjit Sagar Dam. Although the Ranjit Sagar Dam has been completed in 2001 and chances of flash floods in River Ravi have been consequently reduced to some extent but the area downstream Madhopur Head Works, where River Ujh and tributaries Jallalia, Khooni Nallah, Shingarwan and Tarnah which joins River Ravi at confluence point near Makora Pattan and in River opposite Rosse complex Gurdaspur and Naumani Nallah opposite near Kamalpur Jattan will continue to cause flood damages as these rivulets are naturals, high velocity and flashy torrents. Due to floods in river Ravi since last so many years, the left bank of the river has been heavily eroded away at many places which further endangers to the border fencing, flood lights, border observatory posts, agricultural land and adjoining village settlements. The Course of river Ravi has change its way during last few years due to soil erosion near village Rosse,Chandu wadala and Momanpur. Sakki/Kiran Nallah is a natural uncanalized Nallah in District Gurdaspur which may also cause floods in adjoining areas and endangers to agricultural land and settlements. -

Krishna Devi : Steno 1 PREFACE Income estimates at the district level have assumed a special significance keeping in view the setting-up of District Level Planning Committees by the State Government to formulate a long-term district perspective plan and to evolve a short-term strategy for planned development of the districts. Now a day adequate emphasis is being laid down on empowering PRIs for strengthening local level planning. State Income estimates measure the volume of all the goods and services produced in the economy during a given period of time. The composite estimates of income at the State level do not reveal whether the benefits of development have been evenly distributed among the districts or not. District Income estimates throw light on the regional development of the economy and its structural shift over the years. These estimates are useful to study the inter-sectoral and inter- district economic imbalances and help in removing such disparities. -

Abstract This study is an attempt to generate genetic database for three endogamous populations of Sikh population (Arora, Jat and Ramgariha) of Central India. The analysis of eight autosomal STR loci (D16S539, D7S820, D13S317, FGA, CSF1PO, D21S11, D18S51, and D2S1338) was done in 140 unrelated Sikh individuals. In all the three studied populations, all loci were in Hardy -Weinberg equilibrium except at locus FGA in Ramgariha Sikh and locus D16S539 in Arora Sikh.
