1. Introduction : was created on dt. 01.04.1993 as a result of division of erstwhile district into four separate districts. This district covers area of Jagatsinghpur sub-division along with two Tahasils split and separated from its parents district is under administrative control of central division. District Magistrate and collector is the head of district Administration. He is assisted by two Addl. district Magistrate posted at district Hqr Jagasinghpur and for managing day to day administration and maintaining law and order.

2. Location : Jagatsinghpur district lies between 86o 3’ to 86ᴼ45’ East longitude and between 19o 58’ to 20o23’ North latitude. It is bounded by the district in north, district in south, in the east and in the west. It is named after by its headquarters viz, Jagatsinghpur.This district is also surrounded by river system the and Paika in the north and Devi in the south east. Due to its geographical situation, the district is congenial and prone to occurrence of various natural calamities like flood, cyclone or both and even drought.

3. Climate : The climate condition of the district is generally hot with high humidity during April to June and cold during December to January. The monsoon generally breaks during the month of July. Average annual rainfall of the district is 1521.5 m.m in 2014 which is higher than the normal rainfall (1514.6 m.m ).

4. Area and Population : The district has an area of 1668 sq.kms and 11.37 lakhs of population as per 2011 census. The district accounts for 1.07. percent of the states territory and shares 2.71 percent of the states population. The density of population of the district is 682 per sq. kms. as against 270 person per sq.km of the state. It has 1292 villages (including 69 un-inhabited villages) covering 8 blocks, 8 Tahasils and 1 Subdivisions and 194 GPs. As per 2011 1 census the schedule caste population is 248152 (21.80%) and schedule tribe population 7862 (0.70%) of the district. The literacy percentage of the district covers 86.6 against 72.9 of the state.

5. Agriculture : During the year 2014-15, the net area sown was 88 thousand hectares against 4474 thousand hectares of the state. The production of paddy was 2797818 quintals,6 quintals of maize, 173134 quintals mung, 6649 quintals biri, 2149 quintals kulthi, 10 quintals til, 27200 quintals groundnuts, 97 quintals mustard, 47608 quintals potatoes, 20 quintals jute and 219818 quintals sugarcane. During 2014-15, the total fertilizers used in Jagatsinghpur district is about 9833 MT with a breakage of 5362 MT nitrogenous, 3018 MT phosphatic and 1453 MT pottasic and the consumption of fertilizer per hectare is 48.43 Kg.

6. Irrigation : During, 2013-14, it is reported by District Agriculture Office that the irrigation potential created during Kharif and Rabi are 74601 hectares and 34387 hectares respectively through major / medium irrigation projects, minor irrigation project and other sources in the district.

7. Education : During 2014-15, 999 nos. of primary schools, 623 nos. of Up- primary schools, 314 nos. of Secondary schools and 35 nos. of general colleges are functioning in the district to impart general education.

8. Health : The medical facilities are provided by different agencies like Govt., Private individuals and voluntary organizations in the district. There were 1 no. DHH, 10 nos. CHC, 37 nos. PHC of the Allopathic medical institutions including 189 nos. of Sub Centre in the district during the year 2014-15. There were 21 nos. of Homoeopathic dispensaries and 11 nos. of Ayurvedic dispensaries in the district during the year 2013-14.

9. Veterinary Services : During the year 2013-14,it is reported that 13 nos. of Hospitals and dispensaries, 89 nos. of livestock Aid centers were

2 functioning in Jagatsinghpur district of provide veterinary services to the people.

10. Industry and Mining : Jagatsinghpur district is not known for industrial activities. Iron ore found in the nearby districts i,e; Cuttack and Keonjhar are transported to Paradeep and from there it is exported to other countries. There is also a large units like Paradeep Phosphates Ltd. (PPL) and Indian Farmers fertilizer Co-operative (IFFCO) Besides during the year 2014-15, 740 nos. of small scale industries have established with total capital investment of about 5428.65 lakhs with 2761 nos. of Employment generated in Jagatsinghpur district. 11. Power : Consumption of electricity in Jagatsinghpur district during the year 2013-14 covers 475.230 million units and villages so far electrified as on 31.03.2014 is 1214 which constitutes 98.9 % to the total villages of the district.

12. Tourist : There are 6 nos. of tourist center as identified by Tourism Department Govt of Odisha during 2015 such as Garh Kujanga (Kunja Belari Matha), (Paradip), (Kanakapur),Paradeep Garh (Sandhakuda),Chandpur and Jagatsinghpur. During 2015, the numbers of Domestic tourists were 1134587 and foreign tourists were 5043 who visited the tourists spots of the district.

13. Transport & Communication : During 2014-15, 10 Kms. of National Highways, 116 Kms. of state highways, 41 Kms. Major district roads, 222 kms of other district roads,1570 Kms of Panchayat Roads, 736 Kms of rural roads,808 Kms, of Panchayat Samiti Roads are operating in the district. Besides, 68.12 kms. of Railway lines with 4 nos. of railway stations and 6 nos. of passenger halts are continuing in the district.

14. Banking : As on December, 2015, there are 154 nos. of schedule commercial banks having 6371.14 Crore rupees deposit and 1972.15 Crore rupees credit in the district.  
