 Mixed Pennants Grand Finalists  Selections for upcoming Representative matches  Zone 10 Club News  Results from NSW State Championships  Aloha Bowls Barefoot “Championship” announced

Have you had a look at the Discussion Paper on possible Zone redistribution yet? No – you haven’t! WHY?? If you play bowls – and especially Pennants – then this affects YOU and YOUR opinion is required by both your Club and Zone 10. There are many parts of the Discussion Paper that could have a dramatic effect of the future of bowls in your area, whether it is possibly good or bad!! You have a voice and as it says above “It’s in YOUR hands”

Zone 10 Executive has requested that all Clubs and their Members write to Bowls NSW noting either agreement, disagreement, suggestions and with some resolution to make the changes more palatable for their Club and their Members. It is asked that the Zone be copied with your submission to allow a consensus for the Zone’s submission. Remember – 31ST JANUARY is the Submission deadline and with Xmas fast approaching, time is running out.

Both events were Round Robin of 3 qualifying matches with 16 Zones (4 sections) represented, followed by Semi & Grand Finals each day. In the Singles, John Roberts won 1 match and was defeated in the reminding 2 sections matches, whilst in the Pairs, Greg & Greg were also successful in 1 match, defeated in 2. Although not making the finals, congratulations goes to all the players for a great effort to make the playoffs.

Belrose BC is the venue for the 2013 Championship of Club Champions being currently played. In the Singles, Chicko Trbara (Merrylands) was defeated 31-26 in a great match against Ian Lean (Raymond Terrace, Zone 2) The Pairs will commence tomorrow and Zone 10 will have Kurt Mottek & Mick Debona (Northmead) flying the flag – good luck!!

The Bowls NSW Club Challenge pits sides of seven club based bowlers up against each other in singles, pairs and fours with points allocated in each match based on rinks won - the side to win two of the three contests wins the match. Sides are arranged into local sections, playing up to six round robin matches to determine a section winner that will progress to the knockout regional finals, ultimately reaching the final four and progressing to the State Finals. Zone 10 is represented as follows - Mens Gold Carlingford - Mens Silver Carlingford & The Hills - Mens Blue Carlingford x 2 + The Hills

Sides reaching the State Finals will receive prize money, and sides contesting the State finals who have greater than 150km to travel will receive some travel assistance. The 2013 State Finals series will be held at Warilla Bowling Club on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 December.

The Brush Park Mixed Pairs final was played on Sunday 3rd in very windy and uncomfortable conditions. It was a very tight match and the winners were Jenny and John Roddy (15) with Frank Harrison and Joy Battersby (11) very credible runners up.”

2013 Major/Minor Pairs The culmination of this year’s Major/Minor Pairs competition saw Ken Sherwood and Jeff Starr 21 triumphant over Keith Rowe and Craig Williams 11. A tight game to the halfway mark and then a few loose shots saw the winners grab a handy lead. A number of big name players and teams that were heavily backed, were eliminated by these guys on the way through. The great outcome of this particular competition is that guys from lower grades get a chance to play with the stronger players; Ken played in our sixes this year and Keith in our sevens.

2013 Mixed Pairs Castle Hill’s very own NSWWBA 2013 State Pairs runner-up skip, Debbie Howard partnered by husband Mike entertained a crowd of members at Castle Hill BC in a fight to the end final against the up and coming Lyn Zahra and elder Statesman, David Organ. The final score of 17-13 gives an indication of the tightness of the game. There were fabulous shots played by all players and plenty of oohhing and aahhing from the large crowd gathered. In Debbie’s case this was the only remaining club championship that she’s eligible to play in, that she hadn’t won – what a marvellous achievement! Great to see well- known bowler, Clarrie White (who hasn’t been on top of his game lately), on the sidelines watching the finals.

2013 Minor Singles In winds gusting up to 80 klms per hour, Tony Martinez slogged it out against Peter McGill to win Castle Hill’s 2013 Minor Singles Final. The final result was 31-27. In very trying conditions the players were regularly left second guessing the line to play, but to their credit the game was a cracker and really anybody’s to win right through to the end. A big crowd was on hand to support the players and special mention and thanks to Tracey Martinez for her regular “finals” food extravaganza!

Major Triple final winners for 2013 were Mario Zanella, Daryl Eagles & John Meagher opponents were Ross Brennan, Paul Mazaroli & Cameron Ross in agreat game went down to the wire.

In the President Fours final after a slow start Gary Schmidt team of Peter Black, Steve Hannan and Jim Sadler hit form after finally squaring the game on the 9th end then won 8 consecutive ends to run out winners 28/18 from Peter Langwill, Alan Doyle, Bob Hunter and Richard Schilling.

Ryde X has completed the remaining championships for the year. The mixed pairs winners were; Walter Cappelletto and Marlene Guinn. Runners up were Greg Carroll and Jan Vinton. very close game, only one shot the difference Mixed Fours winners were Walter Cappelletto, Alex Rozsnyoi, Marlene Guinn and Sue McGarrity, the runners up were Vic and Margaret Caldwell with Vince and Fran Domarko. Congratulations to all who played in our club championships over the year. Special thanks to the people behind the scenes, markers, umpires and match committee members.

Our presentation day will be held on 14/12/2013 beginning at 9.30am in the Phoenix room.
