Wednesday 20th November – Singles (The Hills – Northmead – Pennant Hills) Thursday 21st November – Pairs (The Hills – Northmead) Friday 22nd November – Fours (The Hills) Monday 25th November – Mixed Pairs (The Hills) The Brush Park Mixed Pairs final was played on Sunday 3rd in very windy and uncomfortable conditions. It was a very tight match and the winners were Jenny and John Roddy (15) with Frank Harrison and Joy Battersby (11) very credible runners up.” Joy & Frank Jenny & John 2013 Major/Minor Pairs The culmination of this year’s Major/Minor Pairs competition saw Ken Sherwood and Jeff Starr 21 triumphant over Keith Rowe and Craig Williams 11. A tight game to the halfway mark and then a few loose shots saw the winners grab a handy lead. A number of big name players and teams that were heavily backed, were eliminated by these guys on the way through. The great outcome of this particular competition is that guys from lower grades get a chance to play with the stronger players; Ken played in our sixes this year and Keith in our sevens. 2013 Mixed Pairs Castle Hill’s very own NSWWBA 2013 State Pairs runner-up skip, Debbie Howard partnered by husband Mike entertained a crowd of members at Castle Hill BC in a fight to the end final against the up and coming Lyn Zahra and elder Statesman, David Organ. The final score of 17-13 gives an indication of the tightness of the game. There were fabulous shots played by all players and plenty of oohhing and aahhing from the large crowd gathered. In Debbie’s case this was the only remaining club championship that she’s eligible to play in, that she hadn’t won – what a marvellous achievement! Great to see well- known bowler, Clarrie White (who hasn’t been on top of his game lately), on the sidelines watching the finals. 2013 Minor Singles In winds gusting up to 80 klms per hour, Tony Martinez slogged it out against Peter McGill to win Castle Hill’s 2013 Minor Singles Final. The final result was 31-27. In very trying conditions the players were regularly left second guessing the line to play, but to their credit the game was a cracker and really anybody’s to win right through to the end. A big crowd was on hand to support the players and special mention and thanks to Tracey Martinez for her regular “finals” food extravaganza! Jeff Starr & Ken Starwood Debbie & Mike Howard Peter McGill & Tony Martinez Major Triple final winners for 2013 were Mario Zanella, Daryl Eagles & John Meagher opponents were Ross Brennan, Paul Mazaroli & Cameron Ross in agreat game went down to the wire. Cameron, Paul & Ross Mario, Daryl & John Minor singles event Winner Cameron Ross v Peter Coyle score 31-29 nail bitting final that could have gone either way with the lead changing hands several times throughout the match Cameron Ross Peter Coyle In the President Fours final after a slow start Gary Schmidt team of Peter Black, Steve Hannan and Jim Sadler hit form after finally squaring the game on the 9th end then won 8 consecutive ends to run out winners 28/18 from Peter Langwill, Alan Doyle, Bob Hunter and Richard Schilling. Ryde X has completed the remaining championships for the year. The mixed pairs winners were; Walter Cappelletto and Marlene Guinn. Runners up were Greg Carroll and Jan Vinton.
