Stu Cook Bass Transcriptions Stu Cook Bass Transcriptions Anthology Transcribed by Eric Beaule Introduction Bassist Stu Cook, along with brothers Tom and John Fogerty and drummer Doug Clifford, were the founding members of Creedence Clearwater Revival. Tom was the rhythm guitarist and younger brother John was the singer, lead guitarist and main songwriter for the band. CCR has been a staple of Classic Rock radio for more than 40 years and one of the most prolific rock bands of all time. They've released 7 albums between 1968 and 1972, which spawned nine top 10 singles and several top 40 songs. In all, 20 radio hits! In 1969 alone, they've released three of their best known albums, which were all certified platinum. Stu's style of bass playing is solid, precise and focuses on the song. Cook, along with Clifford is still recording and touring with Creedence Clearwater Revisited, entertaining audiences around the world. The 15 song collection found in this ebook covers the seven CCR albums. It will certainly give you a taste of Stu's stylistic approach. I hope you’ll enjoy the transcriptions and happy shedding! © 2017 www.PlayBassLines.com Table of Contents Albums Song Titles Creedence Clearwater Revival Susie Q 3 Bayou Country Proud Mary 9 Green River Bad Moon Rising 14 Green River Lodi 17 Green River Green River 22 Willy and the Poor Boys Down on the Corner 25 Willy and the Poor Boys Fortunate Son 28 Cosmo's Factory Up Around the Bend 31 Cosmo's Factory Travelin' Band 35 Cosmo's Factory Who'll Stop the Rain 39 Cosmo's Factory Lookin' Out My Back Door 42 Cosmo's Factory Long as I Can See the Light 48 Pendulum Have You Ever Seen the Rain? 51 Pendulum Hey Tonight 54 Mardi Gras Sweet Hitch-Hiker 58 © 2017 www.PlayBassLines.com .

  • America's Changing Mirror: How Popular Music Reflects Public
AMERICA’S CHANGING MIRROR: HOW POPULAR MUSIC REFLECTS PUBLIC OPINION DURING WARTIME by Christina Tomlinson Campbell University Faculty Mentor Jaclyn Stanke Campbell University Entertainment is always a national asset. Invaluable in times of peace, it is indispensable in wartime. All those who are working in the entertainment industry are building and maintaining national morale both on the battlefront and on the home front. 1 Franklin D. Roosevelt, June 12, 1943 Whether or not we admit it, societies change in wartime. It is safe to say that after every war in America’s history, society undergoes large changes or embraces new mores, depending on the extent to which war has affected the nation. Some of the “smaller wars” in our history, like the Mexican-American War or the Spanish-American War, have left little traces of change that scarcely venture beyond some territorial adjustments and honorable mentions in our textbooks. Other wars have had profound effects in their aftermath or began as a result of a 1 Telegram to the National Conference of the Entertainment Industry for War Activities, quoted in John Bush Jones, The Songs that Fought the War: Popular Music and the Home Front, 1939-1945 (Lebanon, NH: University Press of New England, 2006), 31. catastrophic event: World War I, World War II, Vietnam, and the current wars in the Middle East. These major conflicts create changes in society that are experienced in the long term, whether expressed in new legislation, changed social customs, or new ways of thinking about government. While some of these large social shifts may be easy to spot, such as the GI Bill or the baby boom phenomenon in the 1940s and 1950s, it is also interesting to consider the changed ways of thinking in modern societies as a result of war and the degree to which information is filtered.

Journal of the Music & Entertainment Industry Educators Association Volume 12, Number 1 (2012) Bruce Ronkin, Editor Northeastern University Published with Support from The 1969 Creedence Clearwater Revival Recording Contract and How it Shaped the Future of the Group and its Members Hank Bordowitz Bordowitz Media Werx Bergen Community College By 1969, the record business had been around in some way, shape, or form for nearly eighty years. For an octogenarian, it had never been healthier. A study commissioned by John Wiley of Columbia Records said that the business had grown 250 percent in the decade between 1955 and 1965. It predicted the record business would double in size again within the next decade. “The end of the upward trend is not yet in sight,” added Wiley. “Our future has never held more promise” (Rood 1965). With the passing of rock and roll into just rock, the day of the mu- sic business robber barons had begun to fade. The previous decade saw musicians with massive hit records living in poverty, contracted to virtual slavery as recording artists. As Etta James once said, “I…started my show business life living in a private hotel where you could cook. Other entertainers were there, like Curtis Mayfield. Ev- erybody lived in this one hotel. I was the one who had the kitchen. We used to put all our money together to eat. At that time, we would get two cents, three cents, five cents for bottles and at the end of the day we would get our money together and we’d get some food and cook it.

  • John Fogerty Is Rehearsing for His first Extended Live Shows in More Than a Decade
May 21, 1997--- LOS ANGELES---The clouds of mystery are lifting over the mountainside studio where John Fogerty is rehearsing for his first extended live shows in more than a decade. Wearing a green plaid workshirt and pressed blue jeans, the creative force behind Creedence Clearwater Revival is preparing to hit the road to promote his new "Blue Moon Swamp" record, released Tuesday on Warner Bros. But the majority of the dates in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago will consist of Creedence hits. Fronting a quartet, Fogerty will even play some of the classics through vintage '60s gear. Fogerty has never leaned on Creedence songs as a solo act. Coming to terms with the past may account for the clarity of "Blue Moon Swamp." Full of dobros, guitars and passionate vocals, it is Fogerty's most rootsy album since his self-titled 1975 solo debut. Then again, maybe the clarity was already in place. "It came first," Fogerty says before rehearsal. "I get a lot of the clarity from my wife, Julie (Kramer, who hails from Elkhart, Ind.). Her positiveness helps me every day. That spilled over into my directness with the music, and I became very clear with who I should be. And that's a good thing to know, because there's been times in my life where I wasn't that sure. "(The dark, high-tech 1986 release) `Eye of the Zombie' is certainly a great example. So are some of the lost soul meanderings of the '70s, when I made an ill- fated record called `Whodo' that shows up in bootlegs at flea markets.
