Masks required at outdoor events for entry and to be used in common spaces when distancing can’t be achieved (admission, concessions, restrooms). Masks may be removed if distanced and with family unit. Spectators are asked to sit with their family unit in the stands. Concessions stand menus will be modified. Teams will do temperature checks prior to getting on the bus for away activities. Locker room access will vary pending facility limitations. No pre or post game handshakes will take place. No non-essential personnel before and after the event on the court or the field; i.e.—No post game team/family gathering on the field, only players. Last month’s newsletter contained a lot of specifics concerning each buildings functioning that I will not repeat. It is important that everyone realizes that the situation remains one that changes weekly. USD 398 is working to stay current with guidelines and follow the KSDE (Kansas Department of Ed- ucation), CDC (Center for Disease Control, KDHE (Kansas Department of Health and Environment, and the MCHD (Marion County Health Department) guidance. From these entities we take their lead in providing a safe learning environment for our students, and we separate what is national, state, and local in our decision making. Our District Reopening Plan is located on the district’s website un- der documents under each of the building titles. On the school level we are also working to follow the Kansas State High School Activi- ties Association (KSHSAA) and Wheat State League (WSL) guidelines and decisions as it affects our student’s involved with activities. Obviously, large group attended activities garners the most attention. We ask your continued patience as we attempt to get timely information out as it applies to a variety of different settings with schools, and counties. As contact increases, there will obviously be last minute cancelations and changes. Continue to follow the updated information on the district’s web site and Facebook page. I graduated from Pittsburg State Uni- versity in December 2018, and I start- ed teaching last spring. I absolutely love my job as a FACS teacher be- cause I get to educate and connect with my students about real life situa- tions. A few of my hobbies include sewing, baking, hanging out with my husband, and taking my dogs on Ms. McQueary’s MS Art Class walks. I am extremely excited to be teaching in Peabody as everyone has been super welcoming! I am looking Principal Notes: forward to a great school year at USD #398. Welcome back to the 2019–2020 school year. I am excited to have the new school year off and running. Your students amaze me every day with their personalities, creativity, athletic ability and desire to learn. As with every new year there are many exciting changes taking place as well as the addition of some amaz- ing new teachers. The new staff at PMS-HS this year are: Ms. Haley Vivone – MS/HS Counselor, Ms. Kaila Schmidt – MS & 10th Grade English, Mrs. Yolanda Upchurch - FACS, Ms. Taylor McQueary – Art, Mr. Wayne Rziha – Science, and Mr. Josh Laney – Activities Director. If you have a chance, stop by and wel- come each of them. We are excited they have joined our Warrior Team. This year is exciting as we launch our first phase of redesign. The main change most will notice is how we schedule our day. With any change it will take time for parents, students and staff to learn how to better utilize classroom time as well as PLT (personal learning time). While this is the first phase, there will be many more areas for us to explore and learn as we continue to make Peabody–Burns the best school and district in the state. A second area that we are excited about revolves around Restorative Justice and Cir- cles, which are used within our Advisory Periods to create a community within our schools. The idea is that with circles we will see aid in addressing bullying, as well as more citizenship responsibility from our stu- dents. I thank everyone for the privilege to be a part of your students lives and for entrusting us with their educa- tion. As we begin a new school year, I want to welcome everyone to come see the exciting things your stu- dents are doing.     ABSTRACT Title of Dissertation: SCREENING DIVERSITY: WOMEN AND WORK IN TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY POPULAR CULTURE Laura K. Brunner, Doctor of Philosophy, 2016 Dissertation directed by: Professor A. Lynn Bolles Department of Women’s Studies Screening Diversity: Women and Work in Twenty-first Century Popular Culture explores contemporary representations of diverse professional women on screen. Audiences are offered successful women with limited concerns for feminism, anti- racism, or economic justice. I introduce the term viewsers to describe a group of movie and television viewers in the context of the online review platform Internet Movie Database (IMDb) and the social media platforms Twitter and Facebook. Screening Diversity follows their engagement in a representative sample of professional women on film and television produced between 2007 and 2015. The sample includes the television shows, Scandal, Homeland, VEEP, Parks and Recreation, and The Good Wife, as well as the movies, Zero Dark Thirty, The Proposal, The Heat, The Other Woman, I Don’t Know How She Does It, and Temptation. Viewsers appreciated female characters like Olivia (Scandal), and Maya (Zero Dark Thiry) who treated their work as a quasi-religious moral imperative.
