WINTER ISSUE 1963 FIVE Warp Preparation - An Art and a Science JOHN C. BODANSKY (Cocker Machine and Foundry Company) In discussing warp precaution as it is today, or may be in the future, it might be helpful to look back into history a short time and see what changes have taken place in both warping and slashing. This might give us a better idea of why we do things the way they are done now. Some of you must remember the days of spool warping. Yarn was wound from the spinning bobbin to a wooden spool having wooden heads. The ma- chine for this was the spooler. The process was slow and tiresome. It required considerable help (usually women), and the package produced was anything but satisfactory. The spools usually held less than a pound of yarn, and were of uneven lengths and poor- ly wound. Slub catchers were unknown and little or no attempt was made to control the quality of the yarn on the finished spools. BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES John C.
