I was born and raised in a farming community in Preble county, Ohio. There I learned the values of hard work, helping your neighbors, spending your money wisely, doing what needs to be done regardless of how you feel, and getting an education. I attended a small town- ship school (I graduated in a class of 19), played sports, played clarinet in the band, sang in choir, acted in school plays. I was very active in 4-H, including Jr. Leadership (was Fair King my junior year) and county band.

2 3 I came to Ohio State University, graduating with a BS in education, and became an English teacher. I also met my wife of 50 years at OSU and married her in 1969. In 1970, I came to Columbus and began teaching in the Ohio Dept. Youth Services. I received my Masters in Edu- cation Administration In 1974 from Xavier University, and was promoted to HS Principal that same year. I served in that position, for 24 years, retiring from education in 1997. Since then I have worked part-time in retail and as a substitute teacher. I retired” finally” when my wife and I moved here in Oct. 2013.

In 1985 I moved to a “farmette” of 7 acres outside Hilliard. My daughter (born in 1973) and wife became infatuated with horses, and we soon accumulated several. Although I love this community, I admit I miss the horses.

I have come to love this community, for the feeling of “being in the country” while having great neighbors. Last year my friends and I pur- chased a pontoon boat. Our families have enjoyed being on the lake tremendously (fishing?).

Moving here (Oct. 2013), I became interested in the governance of the community. After attending 21 BOT meetings (2014-2015), I felt that I had skills and experience that could benefit the community: I ran for the BOT in 2017 and was elected. I ran on the values of hones- ty, open communications, and fiscal responsibility. I believe I have lived up to those commitments.

Since being elected to the BOT, a lot of improvements have happened. Roads paved, a new lake manager hired, improvements with our security, dredging finally completed, audit completed, remodeling of the lodge and Arrowhead, purchase of new equipment. I was per- sonally involved in many of those improvements. I was also a strong advocate for a new water plant controlled by us, not the county. With the appointment of new Utility Directors, a new water plant was designed and is near completion. I have been an active Trustee, serving/chairing several committees (personnel, roads and dam, safety/patrol, recreation, long-range plan- ning) during my 3 years on the Board. I currently serve as the Vice-President of the Board, which also entails being on our sewer board. I do believe in following the rules, and am not hesitant to speak out if I believe they are being violated. I also raise questions which the BOT often does not wish to address ( such as the recent change in our fire district, which I published in the Dec. Peace Pipe). The value of our homes have risen with the improvements of our community. I ask for your vote to continue the good work the Board of Trustees has done and will continue to do.

ANGELA WATSON

Background I consider myself lucky. For 17 years, I worked in customer service for one of the nation’s largest wireless companies. My work allowed me to travel, and live in diverse areas of the country from Indiana to Chicago to Colorado to Ohio. Then, in 2016, I found this slice of paradise we call home; Choctaw Lake. My Qualifications

• During my 17 years as a customer service leader, I supported initiatives for every type of business from Fortune 100 to the mom and pop shop down the street. • In addition to leading customer service initiatives, I also led our corporate sponsored projects that included community toy drives, clothing drives and adopt a family. • Before moving to Ohio, I was also part of many community outreach programs including being a Girl Scout Leader, and a volun- teer coordinator of a large church in Chicago. • In my 3 years as a lake resident, I have been a member of our Fundraising and Volunteer Committee, Recreation Committee, National Night Out, Community Days, Pancake Breakfast and the Christmas Tree Lighting. • It’s this experience, and my passion for community outreach that inspires me to work run for an open position on the board of trustees.

My Vision I love our sense of community here at Choctaw. To continue this culture, we need fresh ideas and fresh new minds to lead us into the coming years. We need leaders that listen to the concerns of their neighbors and look for what is best for the community as a whole.

• My Pledge As your Trustee, I pledge to: • Operate as a representative of the “entire” community! • “Maintain the Gain”. Continue a culture of owning our own water. We’ve made big improvements over the last couple of years. Let’s continue it!

• I’ll get my hands dirty and work. I won’t just be a vote. • I will do everything I can to get people excited about volunteering. Community involvement is at the heart of Choctaw Lake. Increased community involvement brings fresh ideas, and helps reduce the risk of volunteer burnout. We are neighbors… we are a community. I will work for the community of Choctaw!

4 5 MARTY DITELLO

Marty and his wife Amanda decided to build their home at Choctaw Lake after visiting the lake as guests of Marty’s aunt and uncle over the last nine years. They loved the idea of raising their five children at the lake because of the community environ- ment, the lake views, and most importantly, the idea of being closer to family. Marty has two sets of aunts and uncles who live at the lake and his very close cousin Megan, her husband Tommy and their 3 kids. Marty has five children of his own, ages 13, 10, 9, 8 and 6, four are boys and one little girl who is the 6-year-old.

While being property owners since 2017, Marty and his family have been busy integrating into the community and enjoying all the lake has to offer. Marty and his wife Amanda were part of the 2019 Easter Egg hunt team, they helped to purchase candy, stuff eggs and set up for the big day. Over the summer of 2019, Marty joined the Lake’s Boat Patrol which allowed him to learn more about the lake, interact with other residents and start to develop a working relationship with the Lake Manager, Chief Bell, Deputy Rosales, and Deputy Irwin.

Marty works for McGraw Hill Education as the Senior Manager of Operations for their Digital Technical Support team. Marty is the senior manager of their Blacklick, Ohio office, Marty’s team is responsible for providing support on multiple channels for students, parents, teachers and school administrators from all over the world. If you have a student or know of one who has access to a digital textbook or program offered by McGraw Hill and they have ever needed help, there is a good chance they have talked to someone on Marty’s team. Marty has been with McGraw Hill for just over two years, he spent the previous 17 years as a Director of Operations for Teleperformance in Hilliard, Ohio. Teleperformance is the largest outsourcing customer care center company in the world. With Teleperformance, Marty managed the Hilliard location which held more than 1,000 employees, balancing a budget of between 30-35 million in revenue annually. Marty managed inbound customer care contacts for multiple clients, including Dicks Sporting Goods, American Express, Verizon FIOS, Maurice’s, Apple, Sprint, Priceline.com, and United Healthcare.

Marty is also currently serving as the School Board President for Columbus Preparatory Academy, a K-12 community school in Hilliard, Ohio. Marty is serving his 6th consecutive term as the Board President with a student headcount of 830 and 75 teachers, administrators, and other personnel. Marty is the Board Chair of the Governance Task Force, School Safety Task Force and Co-Chair of the Renovation Task Force. The Governance Task Force is responsible for reviewing, negotiating and ultimately presenting all new contracts to the Board during their public meetings at the school. Through his concerted efforts, Marty has helped to reduce the schools operating debt by 2.4 million dollars over the last three years.

BRIAN WELCH

My background - I graduated from Wayne State University in Detroit with a Marketing degree. The first part of my career I was a buyer at various department stores around the country. I then spent 15 years in management in the office furniture industry. Finally, I was employed for 19 years as a regional sales manager covering the Midwest for a manufacturer of steel office furniture, industrial shelving, lockers and shop equipment. I fully retired at the end 2016.

Involvement in Choctaw Lake governing activities I served on the Board of Trustees from 2014 - 2019. I served on the Constitution, Rules & Regulations, Lake Drainage, Roads & Dam and Communications & Publications Committees. As a member of those committees, I was involved with the review of our governing docu- ments, resurfacing of our roads, various drainage projects, 5-year inspection of our dam by ODNR and the reformatting of the Peace Pipe. I handled the sale of eleven lots owned by the CLPOA over a six-year period that resulted in $273,500 in revenues and an annual tax sav- ings of $3100.

Choctaw finances I am proud to have been a trustee on recent boards that prioritized fiscal responsibility including cash flow, checks and balances and accountability. At the same time, the board realized that some of our capital assets (buildings, equipment, trucks, police cars, docks, boats) were deteriorating, and there weren’t any funds set aside for repairs or replacement. Property owners approved a request for an annual assessment of $112 at the property owners’ meeting the fall of 2018. A ten-year plan is in place to identify which items need atten- tion and when. The plan is updated annually.

The association is currently in the best financial position it has been in for the last thirteen years that I have lived at the lake. Major areas of the community like the dam, roads and lake water quality are in good “repair”, and funding in the form of special assessments is in place for future work. In 2013 the board decided to take some cash reserves that were sitting in bank savings accounts earning next to no interest and invest them in the market. Since that time our investments have grown substantially.

Going forward As we enter the 2020 fiscal year, the Choctaw Lake is well positioned to move forward. In addition to having our finances in order, we have a property manager, who has only been on board for a little over two years but has had a tremendous impact on our community. People are beginning to hear about Choctaw Lake – the last five years there has been an average of 60 property transfers per year.

4 5 I would like your vote I would like to be part of the board going forward that perpetuates this trend. Being retired, I have the time to make a real commitment to the position of trustee. I also have the desire and experience.

JIM PRICE

• 42 Year Resident of Lake Choctaw • BS Degree in Marketing and Master’s Degree in Career and Technical Education from Kent State University in 1970 and 1972 • Current Board Member of Friends of Madison County Parks and Trails (FMCPT) • Past Board Member of Choctaw Lake Property Owners Association serving as Secretary and Treasurer part of my terms 1985 through 1990 • Past London City School Board Member 1991 through 1994 (President 2 years) • Past Tolles Technical School Board Member 1991 through 1994 • Member of St. Patrick Church and Knights of Columbus • Active member of Choctaw Lake Ski Club (in my youngeryears) • High School Marketing Instructor 5 years • Ohio Department of Education supervisor of marketing and career and technical education programs and State Advisor of Ohio DECA total of 20 years • Career and Technical Education Building Administrator in the Career Centers in Columbus Public Schools 15 years

Reason for desiring board position: My wife, Monica, and I have felt privileged to raise our family in such a warm and friendly community. As time has passed, we have seen the growth from 250 homes to over 850 or more homes and it remains being one of the best secrets in central Ohio! I have enjoyed the positions I have held on the boards in the London and Lake Choctaw community in the past. I would like to continue by serving again on the Lake Choctaw Board of Trustees after just completing a vacated two-year term I am asking for your support in electing me for another term. It has been a pleasure serving on our BOT and whatever our needs continue to be to make our community even better problem-solving techniques, evaluation of decisions, communication, and budgeting are the keys in solving our problems in a way that all property owners can afford.

6 7 Manager’s Corner

Hello,

Hope everyone had a great time with friends and family over the Holidays. Welcome to 2020! It’s going to be the best year yet.

On page 9 you will find the application for the boat slip rental. Please be sure to read through this. There are important dates to follow. The renewal process will follow the same as past two years. If you did not have a slip last year but want one this year, please submit an application by the deadline.

In order for the association to do our best to accommodate new boat slip renters, we need to know the level of serious interest. This is why we are requiring payment up front if interested in renting a dock for the first time. Last year, all the docks were rented. More than likely, most will be renewed. By knowing how many serious new renters we have, this will allow us to plan to buy new docks to accommodate the demand as best as possible. All new docks will be installed along the Jetties by the beach. We can not add any additional docks to other areas as we are maxed out on space.

Applications are available in the lodge office, on page 9 in this Peace Pipe, and on the Choctaw Lake website. www.choc- tawlake.com. To access the application, go to “Homeowner Resources” then click on “Boat Rentals”. The link to the appli- cation will be on that page. I will included reminders in the Choctaw weekly.

I am looking forward to this year. The board and committees are working on a lot of good things for this coming year. Once finalized, we will share. Please feel to reach out to me at anytime with any ideas, if you want to get involved, or if you just want to chat.

Appreciate the opportunity to be your community manager,

Mike Casimir

10 11 Choctaw Lake Tree Lighting Event The annual Christmas tree lighting was held on December 8th. This year, we were graced with good weather for December. A good time was had by all as residents took pictures by the displays, enjoying snacks, and listening to the Music Club’s newly released Christmas . This event could not happen without the residents coming together and taking time out of their busy evenings to enjoy community.

There were numerous groups that helped make this event successful. The maintenance team did a great job installing the displays and lights. They even had to put a couple of the displays up twice as extreme winds the week of the event blew down two of the houses and broke several soldiers. Good work to Al Hedrick, Pete Weber, and Mike Whisler.

The Garden Club provided gallons of hot chocolate to the community. Thanks to Mary Brennan, Pat Weber, Donna Killian, andGloria Foote for keeping us warm.

The Booster Club provided funds for the snack cakes that were passed out. Lisa DeGarmo, Angie Watson, Chris Zeeck, Courtney Salters, and Huston Gray assisted with handing out the snacks, and ensured the snack table was always stocked!

The community really showed up. A large crowd arrived by foot, carts, and cars. A huge thank you to Jake Rosales, Joe Bell, Shawn Killian, Nick Kidd, and Madison County Deputy Brian Delabar for keeping everyone safe by managing traffic and parking.

One of the highlights of the night was Mr. & Mrs. Claus arriving to the tree lighting in the bucket of the London Fire Truck. You never know how the Claus family will show up. Thank you Todd Eades for working with Mr. & Mrs. Claus.

The final shout out goes to Dan Blazer. Dan did an amazing job facilitating the event. Your efforts and excitement is appreciated!

Santa…..if you are reading this…Thanks for coming to our great neighborhood! We hope to see you next year at this event.
