Power Gold Music Fest

May 7, 2012, Issue 293 Seismic Shift: Power Gold A lot has changed since we last checked Country radio’s most- played Gold tunes in July 2011. In fact, the word seismic comes to mind. Only10 months removed from our last report, 33 new Gold titles cracked the list compared to 13 last year; in March 2010, just 10 changed. That volatility is reflected in the top 10 Power Gold, where two of its five new songs also debut in the top 100. See below. (Methodology: The format’s top Gold titles were culled from Mediabase 24/7 and the Country Aircheck/Mediabase reporting panel Zac Brown Band for the week of April 22-28.)

McCoy & Associates, which has been producing off-site remotes PAGE THREE PIC for two decades, is on the fence about this year’s festival. “Last year was the first we didn’t do a Music Fest remote in all those years,” owner Sharla McCoy says. “The last five years of research showed me it was getting harder for stations to come up with packages and come in. So I thought, why do I keep beating myself over the head and trying to pull teeth? If it’s hard for them, we’ll just focus on two events a year ñ ACM and CMA awards.” She hadn’t planned on hosting a Music Festival remote in 2012, but may still be swayed. “My phone was going crazy in Las Vegas from Sharla McCoy stations hitting me up about Music Fest remotes,” she says. “I guess word started getting out that Premiere was not going to do it this year.
