Special thanks to Arts Laureate This semester, students could not rehearse and perform together in person as they have in the past. Instead, students practiced and submitted individual videos of their parts. Arts Laureate, a local production studio, then layered the audio tracks together to create the sound of an ensemble. Finally, they compiled the videos so that every student appears on the screen, reunited virtually for the performance. Founded in 1960 by Lyn McLain, DCYOP is an integral part of the Washington, DC community, fostering the musical, academic, and social development of more than 60,000 youth. Our mission is "music for young people; achievement for life." DCYOP was the first youth orchestra to have the honor of performing at the Kennedy Center. Our Youth Orchestra has toured 23 countries, played for numerous U.S. presidents and foreign diplomats, and worked with esteemed musicians such as Yo-Yo Ma, Joshua Bell, Aaron Copland, Gustavo Dudamel, Leonard Slatkin, and Mstislav Rostropovich. In 2018, the Youth Orchestra was the first American youth orchestra to be the resident orchestra at the MusicaRiva Festival in Lake Garda, Italy. We offer group lessons and ensemble training on all orchestral instruments for students ages 4 ½ to 18 and derive our success from a strong emphasis on musical achievement and excellence. The program consists of ten orchestral ensembles including the renowned Youth Orchestra. Each week, 40 highly qualified faculty members teach classes to 600 students on Saturdays at Takoma Education Campus. All students perform at least once per semester in concerts that are free and open to the public. DCYOP distinguishes itself through its inclusivity. The program welcomes every student who wishes to participate, regardless of family circumstances or prior musical ability. DCYOP strives to make its program affordable to all by charging tuition on a sliding scale, which enables children from a wide range of backgrounds to experience the joy of learning and making music together. Inspired by El Sistema, Venezuela’s national youth orchestra program that uses music as an agent for social change, DCYOP also runs an after-school music program in DC Public Schools. DCYOP’s Children’s Orchestra currently operates at two Title One elementary schools in the District. DCYOP encourages community among its diverse student body while fostering each student's creativity and growth. Through the rigor of orchestral music instruction, students increase their self-esteem and build character, see greater possibilities for themselves, feel that they are valued members of a musical community, become accountable for their role in the orchestra, enhance their communication skills, form new friendships, increase their curiosity and love of learning, and develop teamwork and listening skills. The staff of the DC Youth Orchestra Program would like to extend our warmest thanks to our board who, though a time of uncertainty and unrest, has guided our vital work of community-building through music education with diligence, optimism, and generosity. Administration of Barack Obama, 2016 Remarks on Presenting the Presidential Medal of Freedom November 22, 2016 The President. Thank you. Everybody, please have a seat. We've got some work to do here. [Laughter] This is not all fun and games. [Laughter] Welcome to the White House, everybody. Today we celebrate extraordinary Americans who have lifted our spirits, strengthened our Union, pushed us toward progress. I always love doing this event, but this is a particularly impressive class. [Laughter] We've got innovators and artists, public servants, rabble rousers, athletes, renowned character actors, like the guy from "Space Jam." [Laughter] We pay tribute to those distinguished individuals with our Nation's highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Now, let me tell you a little bit about each of them. First, we came close to missing out on a Bill and Melinda Gates's incredible partnership. Because apparently Bill's opening line was, "Do you want to go out 2 weeks from this coming Saturday?" [Laughter] I mean, he's good with computers, but—[laughter]. Fortunately, Melinda believes in second chances. And the world is better for it. For two decades, the Gates Foundation has worked to provide lifesaving medical care to millions, boosting clean water supplies, improving education for our children, rallying aggressive international action on climate change, cutting childhood mortality in half. The list could go on. These two have donated more money to charitable causes than anyone ever. Many years ago, Melinda's mom told her an old saying: "To know that even one life has breathed easier because you lived, that is success." And by this and just about any other measure, few in human history have been more successful than these two impatient optimists.

Rick ross summer 17 download Continue Today Diana Ross turns 75. Ahead, look back on her music career and discover her net worth. In her early years, Diana Ross was a native of Detroit, Michigan. Born on March 26, 1944, named Diana Ernestine Earl Ross, she began singing with three friends, Barbara Martin, Mary Wilson, and Florence Ballard as a teenager, calling the band Primettes. Martin left the group, and the rest of the members became Supreme, followed by Diana Ross and The Supreme. In a 2015 interview with the Detroit Free Press, Wilson talked about the first days of primes. We had no idea what was going to happen. [...] We just did it as a fun time. [...] (But) once we started singing at Primettes, we became very well aware that this is what we wanted to do for the rest of our lives. At 13, I knew this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. We were recruited. The band got their first No 1 hit in 1964 with the song Where Did Our Love Go? three years after landing on the label. They had four other singles, peaking at No.1 in the charts, breaking records. Singles were Baby Love, Come See Me, Stop! In the name of love and back in my hands again. During the 1960’s camp was used as a generic negative term for individuals who did not fit within the definition of mainstream societal norms and was used to include , but not restricted to the LGBT community. However in recent years camp has arguably been exploited by mainstream media leading to camp becoming fashionable and in itself mainstream. This Dissertation will explore how the perceived image of camp is affected when media attempts to “involve”a wider audience. To achieve this, I will first outline the understanding of Camp and Camp fad and the differences between the two concepts. I will then be applying the findings and understandings to multiple seasons of RuPaul’s Drag Race, an American TV Show based upon Drag Queens competing in weekly episodes in order to be crowned America’s next Drag Queen superstar, as a case study. As previously stated, Camp has been intertwined with Gay culture, of which Drag Queens portray a significant part.
