Un homenatge a les seves influències Cinquanta cinc anys desprès dels seus inicis, els Rolling Stones continuen sent una institució que encara es mou (amb el permis del ?puto amo del bussiness? Mick Jagger) segons la seva intuïció i química. Blue & Lonesome, el seu últim àlbum, va arribar com un fantàstic accident, o com Keith Richards va dir amb el seu gran somriure, ?va ser com si un ésser diví ens hagués manat que el féssim?. No fa pas tants anys que els Rolling Stones encara respectaven aquella regla no escrita al món del rock que deia que per sortir de gira, l'excusa era tenir un nou disc per presentar, i així va passar amb les grans gires mundials desprès d'editar Steel Wheels (1989), Voodoo Lounge (1994), Bridges To Babylon (1997) i A Bigger Bang (2005). En general, la gent dona poc valor a aquests àlbums, en part potser perquè feien l'efecte de ser més una excusa per sortir de gira (que és on fan cash), que discos amb prou entitat com per recordar, jo soc més de la opinió, tot i que tinc clar que no son obres mestres, que son d'un nivell molt alt. Fessin el que fessin, Tatto You (1981) sempre marcaria la frontera d'opinió entre l'excel?lència dels d'abans i els ?prescindibles? de desprès. Des del 40é aniversari de la banda que editaven el recopilatori Forty Licks (2002) i l'extensa gira Licks Tour que vindria desprès amb motiu del disc, els Stones van començar a tenir clar, i amb l'àlbum A Bigger Bang (2005) gairebé es va confirmar, que allò de publicar un disc per sortir de gira era un invent sense sentit. Durant el A Bigger Bang Tour, Jagger i Richards segurament es van preguntar, perquè al setlist de la gira les noves cançons gairebé no hi eren, si realment feia falta treure un nou disc i en comptes d'això, treure la pols del seu gran i inigualable fons de catàleg i acompanyar aquestes cançons amb els clàssics que tothom espera escoltar. Des de llavors les gires dels Stones nomes necessiten l'excusa de la celebració d'un aniversari, o ni tan sols això. La veritat és que és increïble, i alhora resulta extraordinari, que a una edat en la que la majoria dels https://www.naciodigital.cat/bergueda/noticia/10032/rolling-stones-blue-lonesome-homenatge-seves-influencies Pagina 1 de 6 mortals es dedica a passejar als néts, jugar al domino i mirar als paletes, aquests tios continuïn pujant a l'escenari per donar classes magistrals de rock'n'roll, millor que moltes bandes a les que tripliquen l'edat. Potser hi ha qui trobi ridícul que una colla de setanta i tants anys segueixi fent rock'n'roll, però si es tracta de blues, l'experiència és un grau i els Stones, tot i no ser de raça negre, sempre han fet el blues com ningú, Keith Richards va comentar fa anys amb el seu somriure habitual, que en realitat era negre, però ningú ho sabia perquè anava disfressat de blanc. Des dels inicis i al llarg de la seva amplia discografia sempre apareixen peces extraordinàries de blues, de les que destacaria, I Just Want To Make Love To You (The Rolling Stones 1964), Honest I Do (The Rolling Stones 1964), Little Red Rooster (The Rolling Stones Now! 1965), I Can't Be Satisfied (The Rolling Stones No. 2 1965), Parachute Woman (Beggars Banquet 1968), Stray Cat Blues (Beggars Banquet 1968), You Got The Silver (Let It Bleed 1969), Love In Vain (Let It Bleed 1969), Midnight Rambler (Let It Bleed 1969), You Gotta Move (Sticky Fingers 1971), Shake Your Hips (Exile On Main Street 1972), Ventilator Blues (Exile On Main Street 1972), Stop Breaking Down (Exile On Main Street 1972), Mannish Boy (Love You Live 1977), Black Limousine (Tattoo You 1981), Rock Me Baby (Live Licks 2003) o Back Of My Hand (A Bigger Bang 2005). Encara segueix posant els pels de punta veure als Stones tocar el gran blues de Jagger & Richards que és Midnight Rambler, o un dels grans moments del Shine A Light de Martin Scorsese amb la versió de Champagne & Reefer de Muddy Waters interpretada al costat de Buddy Guy, amb Keef rendint homenatge al mestre i Jagger bufant l'harmònica com un possés. La història de com es va crear aquest nou disc segurament ja la sabreu, però és bastant representativa de l'estat actual de la banda. A finals de 2015 els Stones es troben als estudis de Mark Knopfler on el grup es reuneix per començar els assajos d'una de les seves últimes gires i treballar algunes idees amb el material que havien escrit esporàdicament entre les gires dels últims anys per un proper àlbum de noves cançons. Com segons sembla, és molt habitual en els assajos dels Stones que per escalfar, comencen tocant temes vells de blues per posar-se, com deia Anita Pallenberg, ?en bona longitud d'ona psíquica?. I mentre que toquen un blues de Little Walter, i un altre blues de Howlin' Wolf, i un altre blues de Jimmy Reed, al cap d'una estona descobreixen que a més d'estar passant-s'ho de puta mare, estan fent unes versions amb una qualitat i un feeling que ells mateixos queden esgarrifats, aleshores, segons algunes versions, Ronnie Wood, segons altres versions Keith Richards, deixa anar una pregunta, ?collons, i per què això que ens està sortint tant be no ho gravem i traiem un disc??, en tres dies van gravar pràcticament en una sola toma un paquet de peces, la seva majoria del blues de Chicago, gairebé sense voler es van topar amb la música en la que es troben vius, còmodes, autèntics i convincents als seus setanta i pico, i no per casualitat és la mateixa amb la que van començar, aquest es l'origen de Blue And Lonesome. Blue & Lonesome no inclou temes nous escrits per Jagger & Richards amb els que la banda ha estat treballant els últims anys entre les gires, com la ultima a Amèrica Llatina, que van tancar amb un concert històric a l'Havana i de la que n'han sortit dos documentals, Olé Olé Olé : A Trip Across Latin America i Havana Moon que explica i mostra l'històric concert de la banda a la capital Cubana. En comptes d'això, Blue & Lonesome és una col?lecció de dotze temes de blues que originalment van ser gravats, la seva majoria a mitjan dels cinquanta, per grans com Howlin' Wolf, Little Walter i Jimmy Reed. Va ser l'època daurada del blues elèctric de Chicago, actualitzant i modernitzant la música del sud profund. ?Aquests artistes bàsicament ho estaven inventant?, va dir Richards. ?No tenien res en que basar-se. Començaven a utilitzar nous tipus de guitarres i amplificadors. Tots estaven provant el terreny amb aquest nou so. Aquest període particular del blues té un sentiment amb el que vam poder identificar-nos, perquè podies escoltar com es donaven ànims i es preguntaven quin camí agafaria l'estil?. ?Mig segle després, tocar cançons de blues clàssic és un acte de preservació i rescat pels Rolling Stones, sempre hem procurat de donar crèdit a les nostres fonts, és un assumpte de continuïtat. ?Hem conegut aquestes cançons durant 50 anys?, va afegir Jagger. https://www.naciodigital.cat/bergueda/noticia/10032/rolling-stones-blue-lonesome-homenatge-seves-influencies Pagina 2 de 6 Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ron Wood i Charlie Watts, acompanyats des de fa més de 20 anys per Darryl Jones al baix, Chuck Leavell, teclista de la banda des de 1982 i Matt Clifford que col?labora esporàdicament des de 1989 als teclats, han aconseguit donar als temes un so on gairebé se'ls pot imaginar tocant en un garito ple de fum, recreant el sentiment original d'aquests temes, és una satisfacció escoltar a uns Stones tan entregats a la causa i tan compromesos amb un llegat amb el que ben bé poden considerar-se els seus últims representants amb pedigrí. Això és blues clàssic sense adulterar, en la seva forma primitiva, i que fa que li doni grandesa a l'àlbum. Blue & Lonesome té dos protagonistes principals, Mick Jagger i Charlie Watts. En el cas del primer, perquè esta en un estat de forma espectacular a tots els nivells (com Keith, Ronnie i Charlie), estem parlant d'un cantant que esta a punt de fer 74 anys, conserva una veu senzillament impecable, corre dues hores de punta a punta per un escenari immens i bufa l'harmònica com si estes posseït, donant a cada versió el caràcter purament stoniá que des de 1962 deixa marca pròpia a cada acostament al blues per part dels Rolling Stones. En referència a l'harmònica de Mick Jagger, ara per ara, com ha recordat Keef a les entrevistes promocionals, ?aquestes lliçons magistrals nomes les pot donar ell perquè la resta estan morts?. De Charlie Watts, què dir?, doncs que és un disc molt especial per ell, dit amb les seves paraules, ?aquest àlbum és el que sempre vaig voler que féssim, és el que sabem fer millor i és el que fèiem quan varem formar la banda?. El que va començar com un punt i a part del seu propi material, de cop es va convertir en un viatge al passat, els Stones van tornar a l'època de principis dels seixanta quan eren una banda de covers de cançons d'altres amb una especial passió pel blues.

    THE BIGGEST SHOW ON EARTH: The U2 360- Degree Tour and its implications on the Concert Industry An Undergraduate Honors Thesis by Daniel Dicker Senior V449 Professor Monika Herzig April 2011 Abstract The rock band U2 is currently touring stadiums and arenas across the globe in what is, by all accounts, the most ambitious and expensive concert tour and stage design in the history of the live music business. U2’s 360-Degree Tour, produced and marketed by Live Nation Entertainment, is projected to become the top-grossing tour of all time when it concludes in July of 2011. This is due to a number of different factors that this thesis will examine: the stature of the band, the stature of the ticket-seller and concert-producer, the ambitious and attendance- boosting design of the stage, the relatively-low ticket price when compared with the ticket prices of other tours and the scope of the concert's production, and the resiliency of ticket sales despite a poor economy. After investigating these aspects of the tour, this thesis will determine that this concert endeavor will become a new model for arena level touring and analyze the factors for success. Introduction The concert industry handbook is being rewritten by U2 - a band that has released blockbuster albums and embarked on sell-out concert tours for over three decades - and the largest concert promotion company in the world, Live Nation. This graphics collection captures the true essence of Dylan's original paintings.
