St Michael’s Easthampstead C of E (Aided) Primary School Crowthorne Road, Bracknell, Berkshire RG12 7EH Telephone: (01344) 420878 Website: www.stmichaelseasthampstead.com Email: [email protected] Headteacher: Miss Sarah Robinson Dear Parents and Carers We are writing to you to tell you about our plans for provision of remote home learning for your child(ren) in the event of them being unable to attend school due to Covid-19. As a school we have developed a two phase approach to remote learning. Phase One refers to individual children being absent from school due to Covid-19 and Phase Two outlines the approach the school will take if a whole bubble have to self -isolate or the whole school is required to close as part of the Government’s restrictions or Lockdown plan. Phase 1 – Refers to individual children, but ONLY if they are absent due to: - Needing to isolate because of Covid symptoms and are awaiting a test Needing to isolate due to family member awaiting a test Needing to isolate due to being family member or close contact of a confirmed case – Having to isolate due to quarantine restrictions on return from different countries In the above situations please contact the office in the first instance to inform them of the absence If your child is well enough to complete work at home then please contact your child’s class teacher via the class email address and they will forward the work for the days that the child will be off to you (along with worksheets or resources as applicable) so that your child can access them at home for the duration of their time off. (eg [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] or [email protected] ). We recognise that not all families will have access to online facilities. Please contact the school office and we will work with you to try to get the work to you in a different format. Phase 2 – Refers to a whole “bubble” of year groups / whole school isolation or school term time closure due to Covid-19 In this situation the school will look to provide a “blended curriculum” where a weekly outline and timetable will be sent out of the work to be done (as in the previous school closure) and, wherever practicable, this will be supported by live Zoom lessons for Maths and English so that children can see their teacher and get explanations of the tasks asked of them. This will also enable interaction between teacher and pupils with questions and feedback. The curriculum offered will be as close to the normal curriculum as is possible. In some classes (particularly younger ones), Zoom lessons may be for smaller groups and not the whole class and so children might not be involved in these lessons every day and may have tasks set instead. Work done by children can be emailed back to the relevant email addresses above so that teachers can see what has been done and offer feedback on it. Teachers will judge the best way to mark/comment on your child’s work. This will not be as refined as it would be in class. Please remember teachers will most likely Faith, Trust, Honesty, Courage, Wisdom Learning to love; love to learn still be in class teaching key worker children in the case of a lockdown so they will mark/comment as soon as reasonably possible. We completely appreciate that not all households have access to a printer. We advise keeping a notepad/notebook for your child’s home learning answers to be written and we aim to ensure that not all tasks require a printer to access our resources. Should you need physical resources to complete the tasks set then please do contact the school. In instances where the teacher is also self-isolating with a bubble or with an individual Covid related illness, please be mindful that they won’t have access to the equipment in school and therefore we will seek to find a suitable replacement for “live” lessons if at all practicable. Please also look out for other suggested resources that could support your child learning at home should the situation arise. We will be regularly reviewing our capacity to support remote learning when it is needed and any updates will be communicated to you all. Obviously, we hope that none of the above will ever be necessary and that your children will continue to be able to attend school and be taught by their teachers, but we do have to be prepared for all eventualities in the current climate. Should you have any questions then please do contact us. Yours faithfully Gary Saunders Deputy Headteacher Faith, Trust, Honesty, Courage, Wisdom Learning to love; love to learn .
