2013 SEASON PREVIEW ties after 20 seasons at the helm. “We have a high percentage of youth, but we are excited about their talent and possibilities. Plus, we have better team chemistry and a group that enjoys being around each other.” Hinds, ranked 15th in the country in the NJCAA preseason poll, will head to the Delta on Thursday, Aug. 29 to take on Mississippi Delta Community College in Moorhead at 7 p.m. The Eagles of Hinds opened the 2012 season against the Trojans and came away with a resounding 42-21 victory. As mentioned, the Eagles will feature a large group of newcomers, but one that the coaching staff expects contributions from immediately. One position group that does not lack experience, however, is the offensive line. The Eagles return three student-athletes that have been mainstays up front, including Thomas Collins (Jackson), Norman Price (Vicksburg) and Kirby Wixson (Pearl). Collins helped anchor the front line of an explosive offense in 2011 before an injury halted his entire 2012 campaign, but the third- year sophomore is back and provides a vocal presence and veteran stability among the entire team. Price (a Mississippi State University commit) and Wixson (a Louisiana Tech University commit) return from their everyday starter roles as freshmen. Robert Lockhart (Delray Beach, Fla.), a transfer from the University of Miami, looks to provide a vertical playmaking presence as a wide receiver in his first season in Raymond. “We had solid play from our offensive line coming out of the spring and we like their experience, plus we have better overall team speed on the offensive side,” Murphy said. Kenya Dennis (Leland), a sophomore defensive back who was named to the MACJC All-State first team as a freshman, returns to anchor the Hinds defense in 2013. The University of Missouri commit had 34 tackles, two and four pass breakups in his rookie campaign.
