Brookes Library: Unless otherwise stated all books on this list are in the Brookes Library. Many of the books will be shelved in the LOCAL COLLECTION. Check for this notation when you look up the texts on the Library catalogue. The books listed here should suffice for basic coursework reading and for general coverage of the course, though you will find more than appears on this list.

Two further resources you should consider both to deepen research and if you find there is pressure on books:

1. Oxford Central Library - Westgate Reference Library

2. The Oxfordshire History Centre

possible. It also has a very helpful bibliography which you should consult when researching your essays. It also includes useful chronological walks.

The Buildings of England: Oxfordshire - Pevsner, Nikolaus, Sherwood, Jennifer, 1974 Book | Usually referred to as ‘Pevsner’! This is helpful to have with you when visiting buildings, though you will quickly find it is inadequate. However, the "Introduction to Oxford" is a good survey of the history of the University and college buildings, in relation to national trends. You should also read the "Introduction: Building materials", by Alec Clifton- Taylor, pp. 406-12.

Unbuilt Oxford - Colvin, Howard, 1983 Book | A brilliant and imaginative study of many of Oxfords unbuilt projects.

The History of the University of Oxford series (8 volumes):

The official History of the University of Oxford is an essential resource. While much of these volumes are devoted to institutional and educational history, if you are writing your essay on either University Buildings or Colleges you should find important material here. Each volume also includes a chapter on architectural History which goes to much greater depth than Tyack's more general though very useful guide.
