31 August 2017 ECB Yorkshire South Premier League www.yspl.co.uk Newsletter – 31 August 2017 Last Saturday Leaders Wakefield Thornes wrapped up victory in just 46 overs against Hallam in an uncharacteristically low-scoring game at Field Lane, where the seam bowlers dominated. Second-placed Sheffield Collegiate kept up their challenge, but were made to work all the way by Aston Hall. Matt Cartwright and Nic Smit gave the home side a solid foundation before a late flourish by Aqab Ahmed and Adam Clarke gave the home side a competitive total. Collegiate did not appear to be in any trouble at 148-3, but after Clarke dismissed Billy Root for 37, a flurry of wickets left the visitors requiring 16 when the last man, skipper Matt Dixon, joined Simon Guy at the crease. Collegiate’s two most experienced players then saw their side home to a one-wicket win with three balls to spare. Appleby Frodingham and Barnsley both gained wins that ensured them of Premier League cricket in 2018. At Brumby Hall, Kieran Lindley and Paul Hilton triggered a Cleethorpes collapse from 120-2 to 160 all out, before an opening stand of 89 between Matt Morland and Harshal Vyas set the home side on their way to a nine-wicket win. At Shaw Lane, visitors Whitley Hall’s 250-7 was probably a little less than they would have hoped for after an opening stand of 119 by Neil Longhurst and Chris Siddall. In Barnsley’s reply, a 148-run third wicket partnership between Harpreet Singh Bhatia and Beck Frostick proved decisive. With both teams in the safety of the top half of the table, there was less at stake at Northfield Lane, but nonetheless, Treeton produced one of their best performances of the season to comfortably beat old rivals Wickersley; Muhammad Waheed again proving the star man with a fine all-round performance. Thornes will defend a ten-match winning run at Baxter Field, where the home side have won only two in nine since leading the table at the half-way point. Barnsley’s run of six wins in eight games stands comparison with Collegiate’s eight wins in 11 and they can be expected to give the home side another stern test. Collegiate’s Tom Rowley needs 55 runs to become the first batsman to reach 1,000 runs in the League this season. At the other end of the table, Tickhill must beat a Cleethorpes side who have won only two of their last eight games if they are to keep alive their slim hopes of survival; whilst Aston Hall will be looking for a win at Brumby Hall to ensure their safety. There are no championship or relegation issues at stake in the game at Sandygate, but Hallam and Wickersley will be hoping to get back on track after last week’s reverse and ensure top half finishes. We believe that the foundation stage has an important role to play in the development of children in their early years, laying foundations for later education and life. Our aim is to provide a secure, stimulating and happy environment to encourage children’s independence and self-confidence. We aim to develop children physically, intellectually, emotionally, socially and spiritually. Activities are carefully structured and planned to provide opportunities for all children to succeed in an atmosphere of care and of feeling valued. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage framework introduced by the Department for Education and Skills. This framework sets the standards for the learning, development and care of children within the Foundation Unit. The foundation stage is about developing key learning skills such as listening, speaking, concentration, persistence, cooperation and early numeracy and literacy. It is organised into seven educational programmes: ▪ Personal, social and emotional development ▪ Communication, language and literacy ▪ Physical Development (these are the three prime areas) and.. ▪ Understanding of the world ▪ Expressive art and design ▪ Maths ▪ Literacy (reading and writing) These areas are delivered through meaningful play experiences.

In the absence of any Second XI cricket and the One Day Cup competition, the Bob Willis Trophy reports have been expanded to include a write up for each day’s play as well as the full scorecards. Sadly all fixtures were played behind closed doors so hopefully these extended reports will enable readers to get the feeling of actually being at the game! In addition, the Somerset Women’s team reports plus the Boys and Girls Pathway write ups are included in the first half of the book as they now come under the remit of Somerset CCC rather than the Somerset Cricket Board.
