2009 Season Notebook

• Courtney Hofland became Louisiana’s All-Time Goal Scorer in the opening match of the season against McNeese State with her 16th career goal. She added one more to her career mark in the following contest to end with 17 before suffering a season-ending injury against Oklahoma State.

• The Cajuns suffered set back after set back in 2009 after being plagued by injuries. Sophomores Gayla Foster and Melissa Minton were both sidelined with preseason injuries. Sophomore Nicole White only saw action in two games 2 before being bitten by the injury bug. Senior Courtney Hofland missed the final 15 games with an ankle injury, while two goal keepers, Amanda Moorefield and Lauren Berlingo missed games with injuries.

• Freshman Cayla Chatman started off her UL career with a bang. The freshman forward scored a team-high six goals, including four games in the final three games. Her goals at Florida Atlantic and South Alabama proved to be game- winners. She also netted two goals in the season finale against ULM.

• Junior Kelli Jestes turned in another outstanding season, scoring four goals and posting two assists. She now sits in second place in the UL record books with 16 goals, one spot behind teammate Courtney Hofland.

• The Cajuns announced their own awards at the soccer team’s season-ending Christmas awards banquet. Chatman was named as the team’s most improved player. Junior midfielder Jordan Blevins earned the honor as the Ultimate Cajuns and sophomore defender Allison Baker was named the squad’s Most Valuable Player.

• Five players scored their first career goal during the 2009 season. Chatman, Blevins, Kayla Henrie, Brooke Perry and Maci Andrus all netted their first goal for the Cajuns.
