EXECUTIVE SUMMARY From a general scenario of present and foreseen conflicts – combat and no-combat – examining the evolution of the many crisis types always further from the classic and traditional warfare particularly referred to the threats of asymmetric warfare (terrorism, guerrilla, ethnic and religious struggles, prevention and restrain of many sorts of menace to the international peace), to produce a structure’s model of a possible future rapid reaction force of the Italian Navy in a Joint & Combined environment. After an analysis of the general lines of the experiences gained in a still near past of multinational oversea military missions for peacekeeping, peace enforcement, combat involvement too, etc., the present Research outlines exigencies to build up a naval, air and amphibious task force with its command, control, logistic assets in a Joint & Combined picture of a rapid response in front of a crisis which presents possible chance of asymmetric warfare forms. So there is also an evaluation of quantity and quality of ships, aircraft and troops needed. But before all of these subjects of analysis there is an introductory basic question: are really the most up-to-date warfare doctrines like the networkcentric one, the right answer to the actual and well diffused situations of asymmetric warfare ? Some doubts are due about use of most advanced technologies against urban guerrilla, sabotages, ambushes, abductions, etc. And there is another capital question too if the threat is directed against any maritime sensible target: is the present hardware of the Navies the most fit to avert, oppose and avoid any kind of maritime asymmetric threat or violence ?
