Acquisition Information The Disability Rights Leadership Archive video collection was transferred to The Bancroft Library by the University of San Francisco on January 30, 2002. Scope and Content Note The Disability Rights Leadership Archive video collection consists of 381 VHS videocassettes, one sound cassette, and transcripts of select video interviews in the collection. The collection is the result of a three-year grant-funded collaboration between the University of San Francisco and Access Video to collect archival documentation on disability, especially on the disability rights movement and the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. The collection includes original video interviews with leaders in the movement as well as documentaries, archival film and news footage, and feature films (including silent films) that include depictions of people with disabilities. A copy of the original grant proposal is included with the collection (shelved with the transcripts). Among the interviewees are John Wodatch, Ralph Neas, Tom Harkin, Bob Bergdorf, Bobby Silverstein, Carolyn Ossolinik, Justin Dart, Pat Wright, C. Boyden Gray, Dick Thornburgh, Pat Morrissey, Chai Felblum, Julia Elwood, Arlene Mayerson, Marilyn Golden, Randy Johnson, Melissa Shulman, Senator Ted Kennedy, Diane Lipton, Jim Weisman, Mary Lou Breslin and George Bush. Transcripts of select interviews are shelved with Motion Picture notes. The George Bush interview is a transcript only. The guide is derived from USF's original database, created by their project staff. It includes title, narrative description, and keyword description of the material. Numbering was assigned by project staff and seems to be random. For example, some multi-part videos are not assigned consecutive numbers. The sound cassette (item no. 270) was included in the numbering, so it has been left with the videotapes.
