Applegate scored 14 points in the second half. His six points in the first half were back-to-back 3’s from the corner, the second 3 coming with four seconds left in the second quarter to give Penn a 22-16 halftime lead. Penn went on an 11-0 run and closed the second quarter with a 13-2 run for a 20-17 halftime lead. The Kingsmen would extend their run to 28-7 for a 35-22 lead after three quarters.

Sophomore Noah Applegate led the Kingsmen with 15 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

Sophomore Noah Applegate posted a double-double – 19 points and 13 rebounds – to lead the Penn Kingsmen in a strong effort against South Bend Adams.

Penn rallied from double-digit deficits twice but suffered a 69-60 loss to Adams on Friday, Jan. 6. Brian Doslak scored 12 points for the Kingsmen.

Adams bolted to a 19-4 lead, but the Kingsmen closed to 29-28 just before halftime, sparked by an 18-4 run. Penn committed seven turnovers in the first quarter, but only had one turnover in the second quarter and outscored Adams 20-10 in the period.

Penn used a 12-2 run in the fourth quarter to close within two points, but Adams pulled away in the final minutes.

Penn point guard Brian Doslak stole the basketball in the final seconds and hit two free throws with :00.3 left, wrapping up a stunning 51-48 victory for the Kingsmen against No. 12 Valparaiso in high school boys basketball action on Saturday, Jan. 7.

Penn rallied from a 17-point deficit early in the second half, 35-18. Penn had an 18-3 run in the second half, and the Kingsmen outscored Valpo 20-7 in the fourth quarter.

Doslak also hit two free throws with :20 left to give Penn a 49-46 lead. Valpo was setting up to attempt a game-winning shot, inbounding the ball with :05 left. Immediately after Valpo inbounded the ball, Doslak darted in for the steal.

Matt McCown hit a huge putback with :41 left to give Penn a 47-46 lead.

Doslak finished with 20 points. Noah Applegate and Connor Schneider scored 10 points each for Penn.

It’s the second consecutive game in which coach Al Rhodes’ Kingsmen rallied from a double-digit deficit in the second half. Penn fought back from 17 points in the second half to upset No. 12 Valparaiso 51-48 on Saturday, Jan. 17. Sophomore Noah Applegate, a 6-foot-4 wing, posted a double-double – 20 points and 10 rebounds, to power the Kingsmen attack. Sophomore guard Drew Lutz scored 12 points. Senior Matt McCown, a 6-foot-9 Bethel College recruit, scored nine points. Connor Schneider scored seven points, all in the fourth quarter and overtime. Brian Doslak also scored seven points. Penn played the game without starting guard Beau Ludwick, who was ill. Glenn’s Matt Strong, who hit seven 3-pointers, finished with 27 points. Penn High’s Kingsmen turned in a dominating fourth-quarter effort, outscoring Northridge 28-15, to earn a tough 57-47 victory on Tuesday, Jan. 17. Penn has won four of its last five games. In those four wins, Penn has rallied from deficits of 8 (New Prairie), 11 (Glenn), 17 (No. 12 Valparaiso) and 7 (Northridge) points. Brian Doslak led Penn with 15 points – hitting 3 three-pointers and finishing off the Raiders with 6-of-6 free-throw shooting down the stretch. Noah Applegate triggered an 11-0 Kingsmen run and finished with 10 points, nine in the second half. Applegate, a 6-foot-5 sophomore, also had seven rebounds and six assists. Matt McCown scored 10 points, Connor Schneider scored nine points, and Drew Lutz scored eight points for the Kingsmen.

On Friday January 20, the Kingsmen boys basketball team hosted the Indians from Saint Joe in a Northern Indiana Conference clash at Penn. The Kingsmen scored a 65-48 victory, winning their fourth game in a row, and winning their fifth game in their last six contests.

Noah Applegate lead the Kingsmen in scoring with 16 points – all in the second half. Brian Doslak followed with a 15 points. Drew Lutz scored 14 points.

To start the game, both teams started off by just going 3-of-8 shooting in a low- scoring first quarter in which the Kingsmen led the Indians 11-8.

The Kingsmen went on a 7-0 run in the second quarter, but the countered with a 6-0 run, and the Kingsmen owned a 24-20 halftime lead.

The teams traded runs again in the third quarter. The Kingsmen went on a 9-0 run, followed by an Indians’ 7-0 run. The Kingsmen led the Indians 37-34 at the end of three quarters.

Penn owned the fourth quarter. The Kingsmen went on a 12-0 run and went on to outscore St. Joe 28-14 in the fourth quarter to wrap up the victory.

The Kingsmen are now 7-6 overall and 4-2 in NIC play.

Penn plays at archrival Mishawaka on Friday, and at Goshen on Saturday.

Applegate, a 6-foot-5 sophomore, finished with 22 points. Brian Doslak and Drew Lutz scored nine points each, and Connor Schneider worked inside for eight points.

Penn won its fifth game in a row against Mishawaka, and leads the all-time series 49-19.

Penn owned a 29-16 rebounding edge, including a 10-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. That helped the Kingsmen to a 12-2 margin in second-chance points.
