However, to compete at the World Championships she has to come up with $8000 to cover international airfares, medical and travel insurance, accommo- dation, tour and racing uniform and transport to and from the lake. ‘‘I am currently looking for sponsorship to fund my travels overseas. ‘‘Unfortunately, like most New Zealand sports, rowing is experiencing a shortfall in funding and I have limited personal resources. ‘‘I would be grateful for any sponsorship or donations to help me represent New Zealand.’’

Tui Trust has released its latest publication — No¯ Tuawhakarere — Te Rohe Po¯tae: through the lens. This is the second publication produced by Tui Trust, a charitable organisation based in Waitomo. The trust undertakes cultural, educational and environmentally based projects. Trustees Shane Te Ruki and Piki Knap have spent more than three years collating images from public libraries, museums and other collections to bring together a book of beautiful images that portray Maori life in the Te Rohe Potae region between the late 1800s and early 1900s. The book features more than 160 photo- graphs. Mr Te Ruki has produced three other books and is from Ngati Unu of the Kakepuku Mountain district. It is the first publication for Miss Knap who is from Ngati Rora, a central hapu of Ngati Maniapoto based in Te Kuiti. This is the first book of its kind for the Te Rohe Potae (King Country) region and the intention is for it to inspire whanau, hapu and iwi toward recording and preserving their own taonga photographs and cultural treasures for future generations. All proceeds from the book will contribute toward the activities of Tui Trust.

■ The book is available for sale from TRENZ store in Te Kuiti, online through Academy Books www.academybooks.co.nz or via the Tui Trust office in Waitomo. TE AWAMUTU COURIER, TUESDAY, MAY 1, 2012 9 Visitors invited to explore CourierTe Awamutu
