The 4th and 5th grade students experienced the beauty of learning outdoors when they went to Camp Edwards in East Troy. The students partic- ipated in hands-on science activities that taught them about predator/prey relationships as well as the marshland ecosystem. Perhaps the largest lesson learned was accomplished through several challenge by choice activities. Students were offered the opportunity to scamper up a climbing wall and fly across a zipline. There were also initiatives that emphasized cooperation and group learn- ing. The 5th graders tried their hand at archery, which presented an excellent chance to practice patience mixed with a little luck. We even enjoyed a typical camp lunch! At St. Alphonsus School, we are blessed with many unique opportunities to learn. -Mary Duckert, 5th Grade Teacher
