Plan of Action Chalked out by IQAC, for the academic session 2004-05

It is intended to have consistent academic excellence in the institution here onwards. For this purpose various steps shall be taken to achieve this goal of the institution. Some innovative measures in transacting the curriculum for the various subjects shall be adopted and special emphasis will be laid on the time –bound completion of the curriculum. Internal evaluation prior to university examination will be undertaken more vigorously with a view to identify the section of the students who are week in studies and necessary steps shall be taken for their upliftment. Student seminars shall be arranged in the institutions at district level in some of the subjects. This will generate the confidence among students and will create competitive atmosphere in the institution. Through N.S.S. ( National Service Scheme) unit of the College, some community work shall be planned which will help the local society in the town. Recruitment of teachers ( on full time regular basis / contract basis) in departments of Biochemistry, Zoology, Botany etc. shall be considered subject to the condition of its final sanction from the State Government. The research work carried out by some research scholars will be speedily undertaken. The library shall further be enriched with recent books and journals. The Postgraduate dept. of chemistry will organize guest lectures by eminent Professors as a part of activity of Chemical Society. In order to improve the efficiency of the teachers, the students assessment of teachers will be carried out of the end of the academic session. Computerization of administration and the process of admissions and examination results is also under consideration step by step. Increase in the infrastructural facilities which include the construction of spacious laboratories for some departments shall be undertaken. Activities of Annual Association shall be planed so as to have motivation and help to the regular students of the institution. Parent Meet shall be organized in order to make them aware about the Progress level of their wards. Performance in sports activities shall be improved for which more efforts shall be taken. Guidance and Counselling unit will organize some guest lectures by persons with achievements in diverse fields so that the students of the institution will be encouraged and proper guidance for their career planning can be sought. . Transaction of curriculum was done so as to have 60% of the curriculum being finished in first half of the session and 40% in the second half. . Internal evaluation for tow units Tests, Terminal examination and a college Model examination was carried out prior to University examination. Also, an additional Pre- supplementary College examinations was conducted for students failed in the pervious University examination but were allowed to keep term and who were admitted to the next higher class for B.Sc. course in the college. . District level seminars in Chemistry were organized. NSS unit conducted 2 blood donation camps and made two visit, one to Vivekanand Orphonage and another to Old Age Home. . Recruitment of teachers in departments of Biochemistry, Zoology and Botany could not be accomplished due to its sanction from the Government. . The purchase of books in the library has been remarkably increased. The journals however, could not be subscribed. . The Postgraduate Department of Chemistry organized guest lecture by eminent personalities on the occasion of Chemistry Day celebration. Here, Dr. H. M. Pande from Hislop College, Nagpur delivered a talk on “Green Chemistry.” Dr. Sanjay Wagh an astrophysicist connected with IUCAA, Pune and Director, Central India Research Institute, Nagpur was the chief guest and Dr. Manjit Singh ( a Chemical Engineer from IIT Kanpur) Chief General Manager, APR Packaging Ltd. Aashti, Dist , gave the presidential address. . Student feedback on teachers was obtained at the end of the academic session. . Guest lecture was organized on 17-09-2004 by Dr. D. P. Lingojwar, President of Regional Society for Education and Research in Community Health (RESEARCH), NGO Pune. . Computerzation of administration and process of admissions and examination results has commenced but it is in the initial phase. . Well furnished Biotechnology laboratory was set up. . The activities of Alumni Association, Parent – Teachers Association and Guidance and counseling unit however, could not meet our full satisfaction and hence shall be given due consideration during the next session. Part B of AQAR

1. Activities reflecting the goals and objects of the institution.

 Celebration of Annual College Day as “ Guru Nanak Day” so as to implant Spiritual values in the students.  Celebration of “ Chemistry Day” by P. G. Dept of Chemistry under the activities of chemical society which help enriching the knowledge of the students in the interdisciplinary branches of science.  Community work through NSS and NCC which inculcate the Nation building character within students and make them aware about the social service. 2. New academic programmes initiated ( UG and PG) : Nil

3. Innovations in curricular design and transaction. : This includes the division of the whole curriculum in every subject into 4-5 units and covering the same on timely basis as chalked out in the Academic Calendar for the session, 60% of the curriculum being finished in the first half and 40% in the second half of the session.

Examination reforms implemented : The various examinations conducted for internal evaluation and assessment of the students during the session prior to the University examination include. i] Two Unit Tests : One in the first half and another in the second half of the session. Ii] Two quarterly exams : One in the first half and another in the second half of the session. Iii] Pre-Supplementary : Conducted in the first half of the session for the students who had College exam. failed in the previous year university examination in some subjects and who were allowed to keep term and got admitted in the next higher class in the college. 6] Number of candidates qualified NET / SET : Nil

7] Total Number of seminars / workshops conducted :Two Seminars :- 1] Inter – collegiate students seminar (district level) in Chemistry for B.Sc. students on 14-01-05 in which 7 colleges participated. 2] Inter collegiate students seminar in Chemistry for M.Sc. students held on 25-01-05 in which 4 colleges participated. 8] Research Projects : a] Newly implemented :- Bioaccumulation of calcium chloride from effluent of Dicalcium Phosphate Plant was started from June 2004 which is funded by Bamni Proteins Ltd. , a subsidiary of Kerla Chemicals and Proteins Ltd. Principal Investigator for the project is Dr. S. D. Patankar, Reader in Microbiology dept. of the college. Total cost of lthe project is Rs. 1,34,000/- out of which first instalment of Rs. 40,000/- approximately 30% of the total cost was received. b] Completed :- “ Fortification of Tribal Food by Fermentation for Micronutrients” Funded by DST. Date of completion is 16-01-2005 9] Patents generated , if any : Nil

10] New collaborative research programmes. : a) Analysis on Atomic absorption Spectra of fermented food samples for mineral work was done at National Institute to Nutrition (NIN) Hyderabad by Dr. S. D. Patankar Dept. of Microbiology. b) Genetic charactersation of two bacterial isolates from Tribal Food samples was done by Dr. S. D. Patankar using 16 Sr. DNA isolation and PCR ( Polymerase Chain Reaction ) at National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI), Nagpur under the guidance of Dr. H. J. Purohit, senior Scientist. Isolates were identified as Bacillus Pumalis and Acenetobacter acetii. Further work on their biochemical and physiological activity is going on. 11] Total research grants received from various agencies : A financial grant of Rs. 48,462/- of on going project funded by Ministry of Science and Technology (DST) as mentioned above was carry forwarded to year 2004-05. 12] Number of Research Scholars : 04 13] Citation index of faculty members and impact factor : None 14] Honors / Awards to the faculty :  Dr. M. 15] Internal resources generated : Chemical and Microbiological analysis of soil samples from Jagruti Mahila Samaj under UNDP project, Bamni Proteins Ltd., was done form which a sum of Rs. 3786/- was generated. Total funds from private sector including Project funded by Bamni Proteins Ltd. Is Rs. 43,786/- 16] Details of departments getting SAP, COSIST/DST.FIST etc. assistance /recognition. Department of Microbiology where in a research project funded by DST is being run. 17] Community Services :- The NSS ( National Service Scheme) unit of the college conducted two blood donation camps in which 38 students donated the blood. The NCC unit conducted one blood donation camp in which about 40 cadets donated the blood.  The NSS unit of the college visited Vivekananda Orphonage situated at ( 7km from college) in Chandrapur district on 19/12/04 under the leadership of Principal, Dr. M. S. Suri. Through this visit a questionnaire based interaction with the orphans and association with them for the whole day was undertaken.  The NSS unit also visited the Old Age Home “ Matoshri Vriddhashram” situate on Ballarpur – Chandrapur road under the leadership of Dr. V. G. Deshmukh, Head, Dept. of Chemistry accompanied by Programme Officer of N.S.S.  The NSS unit organized a rally to raise the funds for the Tsunami victims on 19/01/05. Through this rally a total fund of Rs. 5730/- was collected which was sent to Prime Ministrer’s National Relief fund through NSS unit of Nagpur University.  Dr. G. S. Gond, Head, Dept. of Biochemistry along with a dozen of his students were actively involved in Sickle Cell Anaemia Detection camp organized by Lions Club of Ballarpur and “ RESEARCH” (NGO), Pune held on 13th and 14th Sept. 2004 at Ballarpur. 18] Number of teachers and officers newly recruited : Nil 19] Teaching /Non-teaching staff ratio : 1.1.82 20] Improvements in the library services : Computerization of Library Services was intiated 21] Number of new books / journals subscribed and their value : No. of Books :- 312 ( Text books and Reference books ) Cost :- Rs. 60,650/- New Journals :- Nil 22] Number of courses for which students assessment of teachers in introduced and the action taken on students feedback : Student assessment of teachers was carried out in all for 9 subjects at UG level where there exist permanent faculty members. The student feedback being made available to the concerned teachers so that they can further improve their performance and achieve quality enhancement. 23] Unit cost of education : Rs. 19598.62 24] Computerization of administration and the processes of admissions and examination results, issue of certificate : Initiated and is being gradually increased. 25] Increase in the infrastructural facilities : Setting of Bio-Technology laboratory was done. Installation of Sintex water tank at library and provision of water facility for the toilet attached to the library building. 26] Technology upgradation : Not yet achieved. However the usage of Over-Head Projector besides usual teaching aids in the class in some departments has started. Purchase of three Over-Head Projectors done during the current academic session. 27] Computer and Internet access and training to teachers and students : Students and Teachers have access to computers and Internet Services. The college has developed its own website. 28] Financial aid to students : Nil 29] Activities and support from the Alumni Association : A memento and a cash prize of Rs. 500/- was given to every college topper from std. XII, B.Sc. and M.Sc. classes. In all five students were honoured during the function organized by Alumni Association during Annual College Day celebration. 30] Activities and support from the Parent – Teachers Association : There was a very poor response for the Parent Meet organized in the college . However, the discussion with those parents were held which were called in the college for the short of attendance of their wards. 31] Health Services : General medical check up of students was undertaken on 2nd and 3rd Feb. 2005. Dr. Majo Joseph a local private practitioner and Dr. Mrs. Nisha R. Bhole, Saint Chavra Hospital, Ballarpur were called for this job. 32] Performance in sports activities :  The performance in sports activities was overall good, but not up to the mark.  The College Volleyball team won two rounds in inter-collegiate Volleyball Tournament ( university level) held at Ambedkar College Chandrapur, Maharastra between 25th -30th Oct. 2004.  One college student represented participating in Shot-Put in the State level sports events held at Sangli ( Maharastra) from 8th to 10th Dec. 2004. 33] Incentives to outstanding sportspersons : The best sportspertsons, one each from boys and girls were feliciated with the presentation of mementoes during Annual College Day celebration held on 23rd and 24th Dec. 2004.

34] Students achievements and awards One student stood 4th in order of merit in M.Sc. (Chemistry) examination of Nagpur University , March 2004. One student stood 12th in order of Merit in H.S.C.S. (std. XII) examination of Board of Sec. and Hr. Sec. Education, Nagpur Division, March 2004. One student of B. Sc. II bagged third prize in Elocution competition conducted by Post Graduate Teaching Department of Chemistry, Nagpur University, Nagpur on 25/01/2005. The title of the topic was “ Provatisation of Higher Education is a boon to the society. One student of Junior College bagged First prize in State level essay competition on wild life and Environment, in August 2004, conducted by Forest Dept. of Maharashtra. 35] Activities of the Guidance and counseling unit. : The guidance and counseling unit has arranged a lecture by senior officer from Bank of India Regional office, to give the information to the students about educational loan for professional and education. The career guidance was also arranged by some faculty members in the college. 36] Placement services provided to students : Apex Laboratories Ltd., Chennai conducted interview in college on 26/01/05. In all, 8 candidates from B.Sc. and M.Sc. appeared for the interview. From these 4 names were short listed and recommended for further stage of screening for the final appointment. 37] Development programme for non-teaching staff. : The non-teaching staff is being gradually trained for the operation of computers. Five non-teaching staff members were trained for computer operation during the current academic session. 38] Any other relevant information the institution wishes to add : Considering the suggestions made by the NAAC committee, the college organized a 4 days lecture series on Foreign language. The Co-ordinator of IQAC engaged 4 lectures, each of one hour duration on “ Introduction to French as a foreign language”. For this activity B.Sc. final and M.Sc. Students were selected.

Part C of AQAR

 In order to have still more time bound completion of the curriculum the distribution of the work in this regard as per the new tentative time-table has been done at the end of this current session so that the actual teaching could start from the very first day of the next session from 01-07-2005.  Internal evaluation constituting the Unit Test, Terminal examination and Model examination prior to university examination shall be implanted like previous year with little modification.  Student seminars in some subjects in addition to Chemistry will be undertaken.  NSS unit will do the community work liked previous year and in addition to this the unit shall strive hard for the beautification of the college campus.  Recruitment of teachers (on full time regular basis / contract basis) in departments of Biochemistry , Zoology, Botany and Mathematics shall be given top priority. ]  Some of the research scholars will complete their work during the next session.  The Library shall further be enriched with books and journals in comparison to the current session.  The Post Graduate Department of Chemistry will undertake more activities under Chemical Society.  Full fledged computerization of library services will be achieved.  Computerization of admissions and examination result shall be further stepped up.  Activities of the Parent-Teachers Association and Alumni Association shall be properly planned in advance so as to have support from these two for the progress of the students.  Performance in sports activities shall be further improved.  Guidance and counseling unit will be more strengthened and activities in the sphere of this unit shall be given due consideration.  Guest lectures, Seminars and Workshop will be given more importance since there was a paucity under this domain, during the current session.  Increase in the infrastructure facilities include the construction of wall compound (about400 feet), Cycle and Scooter stand for students, establishment of Zoology, laboratory for P.G. course. Renovation of students toilet and carving out of good college gardens.  The new academic programmes which will be initiated next session shall include vocational course i) Fish Processing Technology and ii) Fresh Water Fish Culture for Junior college and M.Sc. courses in Zoology and Mathematics.

Actual teaching commenced from first week of July 2005 so as to have time bound completion of the curriculum. Internal evaluation constituted on Unit Test (held in 4th week of August, a Terminal Examination ( held from 24th to 29th of October, 2005) and the Model Examination (held from 27th Jan 2006 to 09th Feb. 2006). District level seminar in Chemistry was conducted for B.Sc. II on 19-01-2006 in which in all 9 colleges participated. NSS unit organized a visit to Vivekananda Orphanage at Rujura, 7 km from Ballarpur, as a part of community work and also strived hard to carve out two college gardens with the involvement of NSS students. Recruitment of teachers ( on full time regular basis / contract basis) in departments of Biochemistry, Zoology, Botany and Mathematics could not be done as the recruitment was banned by Govt. of Maharashtra. One teacher from Geology Dept. completed his research work and was awarded Ph. D. The library was further enriched with books however journals could not be subscribed. The Post Graduate Dept. of Chemistry under the Chemical Society celebrated Chemistry Day and on this occasion a guest lecture by Shri S. S. Deodhar, Manager Chemical Laboratory, Maharashtra Electros melt Limited (MEL), a Govt. of Maharashtra undertaking at Chandrapur, was arranged. Computerization of Library Services was achieved by the purchase of concerned software. Activities of Parent-Teacher Association and Alumni Association could not be held. Performance in Sports activities remained of the same order like that of previous year. Department of Biochemistry organized a guest lecture on Sickle Cell Anaemia by Dr. P. B. Lingojwar from “ RESEARCH”, (NGO) in Pune. Increase in the infrastructural facilities include establishment of new Microbiology laboratory, and construction of new students toilet. Department of Chemistry under the activities of the Chemical Society.  Community work through NSS and NCC to inculcate national building character within students and make them aware about the social work.  This year, celebration of Annual Day as “Guru Nanak Day” could not take place due to the passing away of Sr. Ajit Singji Soni, former President, Guru Nanak Sewa Samitee which runs the college.

It was based on the University pattern.

6. Number of candidates qualified NET / SLET : The ( Ms. Smita Petkar who belonged to 2003-04 batch of P. G. Dept. of Chemistry of the college cleared NET )

Total number of seminars/workshops conducted : Two i) District level Inter-Collegiate students seminar in Chemistry for B.Sc. students, was held 19-01-06 in which 09 colleges participated. ii) Workshop on Entrepreneurship Development-Training programme on Food Processing and Dairy Technology in collaboration with MITCON ( Maharashtra Industrial Consultancy Service), Pune , was organized in the college from 21-11-05 to 02-12-05 Faculties from institutions like Laxminarayan Institute of Technology, Nagpur, Govt. Polytechnic, Nagpur and from industries like Chitale Dairy Products Pune and Prajakta Technologies, Solapur gave training to the Participants. Training Programme was coordinated by Dr. S. D. Patankar, Reader in Microbiology and Coordinator Drpt. Of Biotechnology.

15. Internal resource generated : i) A project on “ Curcumin Extraction from Turmeric was given by “Prajakta Technologies Pvt., Solapur , Maharashtra to Dr. S. D. Patankar, Reader in Microbiology Dept. of the college. For this project, a grant of Rs. 7000/- was received. ii) A fund of Rs. 50,600/- was received from Bamni Proteins Ltd. for remaining work of the project mentioned earlier in item No. 8 above. Total fund generated from the above mentioned two projects is Rs. 57600/-

A) NCC :

The college runs a coy of 52dadets led by Capt. Dr. S. D. Patankar. Following community services were rendered by NCC Troop under the guidance of Associate NCC Officer Capt. Dr. S. D. Patankar

a) Participation in Anti-Filaria Drive. : Anti- Filaria Drive was introduced by Health Department of Govt. of Maharashtra from November 11 to November 13, 2005. About 30 NCC cadets of the college Coy participated in this drive under which anti-Filaria drug was distributed and people were educated for taking preventive measures against Filaria.

b) Blood Donation : A Blood donation camp was organized in which about 27 cadets participated. This camp was organized with the help of Blood Bank of Civil Hospital, Chandrapur on 17th January, 2006.

B) NSS

The NSS unit of the college organized a visit to Vivekananda Orphanage situated at Rajura about 7 km from the college under the leadership of Shri. R. M. Dani, NSS Programme Officer. At the Orphanage sports and cultural activities were undertaken. The distribution of the sports material worth Rs. 450/- and the books worth Rs. 700/- to the orphans was undertaken on this occasion. About 35 students f NSS participated in this activity.

20. Improvements in the library services :

Computerization of library was initiated with the purchase of a software worth Rs. 20,000/-. Entries of accession numbers of around 7000 library books in the newly purchased library software was completed.

29. Activities and support from the Alumni Association : Activities related with Alumni Association could not be undertaken since College Day celebration did not take place this year.

31. Health services : General medical check-up of the college students was undertaken in the College on 9th Feb. 2006 by Dr. R.K. Yasaniwar and Dr. Nanda R. Vaidya, medical practitioners associated with St. Chawra Hospital near college.

32. Performance in sports activities. : The college Volleyball team participated in the district level Volleyball competition held on 13-10-05 at Chandrapur. 33. Incentives to outstanding sportspersons : None, as there was no celebration of the college day this year.

34. Students achievements and awards : i) Ku. Kasturi P. Mulmule a student of Junior College stood 5th in order of Merit in the H.S.C. (Std XII ) Examination of summer 2005 conducted by M. S. Board of Sec. and Higher Sec. Education, Nagpur. ii) Mr. Prashant N. Muskawar a student of P. G. Dept. of Chemistry of the college stood 4th in the order of Merit in the M.Sc. (Chem.) examination of Summer 2004 conducted by Nagpur University, the Merit List of which was published during the current session.

35. Activities of Guidance and counseling unit : On the occasion of the inauguration of the Life Science Society which was held on 15th Oct., 2005, two lectures were organized namely i) “ Genomics Today and Tomorrow” which was delivered by Dr. H.J. Purohit, Senior Scientist, National Environmental Engineering Research Institute ( NEER), Nagpur and ii) “How to prepare for competitive examination in life sciences which was delivered by Dr. Raghav Patankar, Director, Biocareers, Nagpur.

36. Placement services provided to students : Interviews for the posts of Medical Representatives by Apex Pharma Ltd. were conducted where in eight students were shortlisted Interviews were co-ordinated by Dr. S. D. Patankar, Reader, in Microbiology Dept. of the College.

37. Development programme for non-teaching staff. : Six non-teaching staff members from various departments were imparted computer training in the comp. Science Dept. of the college. imparted computer training in the Comp. Science Dept. of the college.

38. Any other relevant information the institution wishes to add. A week-long workshop on French Language was organized in the college for B.Sc. students by NSS Programme Officer and IQAC Coordinator Shri. R.M. Dani lecturer (Selection- grade), in Geology Dept. of the college. A fund of Rs. 700/- was raised through this activity and was utilized for purchase of books for the orphans during the NSS visit to Vivekananda Orphanage situated at Rajura as mentioned above in item No. 17. Here , 60% of syllabus was covered in the first half and 40% in the second half of the session. Actual teaching (theory classes) started this year from 01-07-06 as per the tentative time-table prepared at the end of the previous session.

A Blood donation camp was organized by NCC in which about 28 cadets participated. This camp was organized with the help of Blood Bank Civil Hospital, Chandrapur on 06th Dec., 2006.

B) NSS : i) Visit to Rehabilitation Centre for leprosy victims : The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of the college arranged on day visit to Baba Amte’s Rehabilitation Centre for leprosy victims i.e. “Anandvan” situated at Warora in Chandrapur district. In this activity 14 NSS students were involved, accompanied by three teachers name Dr. G. S. Gond, Shri. V. M. Sorte and NSS Programme Officer Dr. R.M. Dani. During this visit an amount of Rs. 1000/- was given to Anandvan through collection by students and teachers involved in this activity which took place on 2nd Dec. 2006.

ii) NSS unit also arranged a visit to Vevekananda Anathalaya situated at Rajura in Chandrapur district in which 10 students accompanied by two teachers namely Dr. D. M. Dani and Shri. V.M. Sorte were involved. This activity took place on 31-12- 2006.

iii) Other NSS activities in the College. a) Inauguration of NSS activities with a guest lecture by Dr. Vilas Muley, M.B.B.S, M.D. Director Ankur Hospital Blood Bank, Chandrapur. This was followed by Shramadan activity for beautifying college campus, and was held on 17th Sept. 2006. b) Guest lecture on “Concentration of the Mind through Meditation” by Shri. R. Ramchandran Deputy General Manager (Retd.), Mineral Exploration Corporation Ltd., Nagpur on 9th Dec. 2006. Shri. Ramchandran is an expert in this field and runs a meditation centre at Nagpur. c) Guest lecture on “Deaddiction” by Dr. S. S. Paliwal, M.B.B.S., M.D. two well known physicians at Chandrapur.Dr. Paliwal runs a deaddiction centre at Chandrapur.

35. Activities of Guidance and Counselling unit : Sixty students of B.Sc. II (Biotechnology) participated in “ On Job Training” course for 15 days to 01 month during summer vacation, in different organization, institutes and industrial units like Central India Institute of Medical Sciences, Nagpur, Biotech division of A. N. College Warora, which were sponsored by BARC, Enviro-Safe Pune, Deenee Chemicals (Biofertilizer Unit) etc. This training was specially organized for B.Sc. II – Biotechnology students to give an exposure to actual industrial research practices. Training activity was co-ordinated by Dr. S. D. Patankar, Coordinator of Department of Biotechnology in the college, who also gave guidance to the students for competitive examination in Life Sciences / Biotechnology.

Placement services provided to students. : Interviews for the posts of Medical Representatives by Apex Pharma Ltd., Chennal were conducted on 28th Jan. 2007 where in 10 students were short listed Interviews were co-ordinated by Dr. S. D. Patankar, Reader, in Microbiology Dept. and Co-ordinator for Biotechnology Dept. in the college.

37. Development programme for non-teaching staff. : Three non-teaching staff members were imparted training in the Computer Science Dept. of the college.

Any other relevant information the institution wishes to add. i) Life Science Society in the arranged a lecture on the “Role of Bees in Environment Protection” by Gopal Paliwal, an eminent Entemologist and Director, Bees Centre-Wardha. ii) An exhibition on Life Science with different themes like Environment Protection, Advances in Medical Sciences, Application of Life Sciences in Industry etc. was organized in the college by students under the guidance of Dr. S. D. Patankar, Reader in Microbiology.

iii) Five days workshop on Introduction to the French Language was organized in the college for B.Sc. students. The lectures on French language here, were delivered by Dr. R.M. Dani, Reader in Geology and Co-ordinator for IAQC in the college.

Blood Donation : A blood donation camp was organized by NCC. About 20 cadets Participated in this activity which took place on 20th Dec., 2007. The camp was organized by Capt. Dr. S. D. Patankar, Associate NCC officer with the help of Civil Hospital Chandrapur.

B] NSS :

I] Visit to “Kem” and Beghar”, the two villages in the area : The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of the college organized a one day visit to the above two villages located around 6 km. from college, under “Gramonnati Abhiyan” Progamme proposed by Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University. The purpose of the visit was to interact with the residents of the village and to gather the information of these two villages (adopted villages) based on the proforma supplied by the University NSS Unit, at Nagpur. Information from 40 families ( 20 families, from each village) was gathered. In all 28 NSS students participated in this activity which took place on 16th Dec. 2007. ii] Visit to an Orphanage : NSS unit also organized one day visit to Vivekananda Anathalaya situated at Rajura in Chandrapur district. In all 28 students along with NSS Incharge Dr. R. M. Dani ( Dept. of Geology) accompanied by two teachers of the college viz. Shri. P. B. Ghode ( Dept. of Chemistry) Shri. V. M. Sorte ( Dept. of Marathi) participated in this activity which took place on 25th Dec. 2007. During the visit some cultural activities and sport even tents were undertaken for the children in the orphanage.

II ( Biotechnology) have undergone the “On Job Training “during summer vacation for duration of 15 days to 1 month in different research organizations, institutes and industrial units like Central Institute for Cotton Research (ICAR), Nagpur, Vimta Laboratories, Biotech Park, Hyderabad, A. N. Agricultural college ( Biotech Division), sponsored by BARC, ATG- Biosystems Pune, Dhruve Molecular Pathology Unit Nagpur and “Deenee Chemicals” Chandrapur. This training was specially organized for B.Sc. II Biotechnology students to give an exposure to actual industrial and research practices. Training activity was coordinated by Dr. S. D. Patankar, Coordinator, Dept. of Biotechnology of the college.
