Commissioner’s Achievement award

With our latest Board of Commissioner’s Achievement Award, we TOWNSHIP OF CUMRU TOWNSHIP honor Hamid Chaudhry. Hamid is a husband and father, a Cumru resident, a local business man, and a philanthropist with a very charitable heart. Owner of the Kenhorst and Exeter Dairy Queen’s, as well as, the recently open Mustang Grill, Hamid has found success and satisfaction in not only working hard to grow his business ventures, but also to give back to the community he lives and works in. He has certainly found his niche and has become a vital part of our community. Specifi- cally in Cumru, he has been active in the past on a few of our boards and commissions, has helped support our recreational programming, and has helped support our fire departments with a number of fundraising and recruitment efforts. Hamid is a friend of the Township, and certainly deserving of this award.

Winter Hours (January-March): Winter

10:00am-12:00pm 10:00am-12:00pm public works Resident information Snow Storms: The Township is broken up into 9 snow districts; each one is assigned a driver and truck. We also have 8 other trucks to assist the primary crews and in case of a breakdown. During a storm, we will usually follow these guidelines: • Up to three (3”) inches of accumulation, the roads will be salted as the storm progresses. Depending on the storm, plowing may not begin until there is at least three (3”) inches of accumulation. • Over three (3”) inches of accumulation, the road will be plowed as parked cars permit. Special care will be taken to avoid pushing snow into driveway openings. The number and frequency of passes that the plow will make depends on the intensity, duration and type of frozen precipitation. However, no two storm events are the same and temperature, duration, intensity, type of precipitation, time of day, time of year, manpower levels, equipment availability, and many other factors will vary from storm to storm. The number TOWNSHIP OF CUMRU TOWNSHIP and position of vehicles parked on the road will seriously impact the Township’s ability to push snow off of the road. The public can help by staying off of the roads until they are cleared and by not depositing snow from driveways, vehicles, and sidewalks on to the roads. It is important to note that it is illegal to deposit snow onto the roadway and is punishable by fine.

Grass Clippings: Most people know that rain runs off roofs, streets, and other hard surfaces into storm drains. What many people don’t realize is how storm water collects debris, like yard waste and litter. Solid materials bundle together at storm drains and block the flow of rain into storm water pipes. This can result in localized flooding that could have been prevented. Solid materials that get through the storm water system flow directly into local creeks and rivers, often containing pollutants that are harmful to aquatic ecosystems. Like many other municipalities, Cumru Township is responsible for enforcing regulations to minimize yard waste, litter, and other debris in storm water. Accordingly, by Ordinance No. 658, as amended, Cumru Township prohibits the disposal of grass clippings and other material in streets, unless clippings are removed from streets by one hour after sunset on the day on which such clippings are deposited in the street. When it rains, everyone is downstream of someone.

Snow Emergency Routes: Throughout the winter months, an extensive list of the snow emergency routes within the Township of Cumru will be available under the Highway Department section of the Township’s website.

no Sewer deductions: For those sanitary sewer customers on public water, Cumru Township is discontinuing the practice of deductions for pool fill-ups or other water that does not go through the sanitary sewer system. Sewer consumption will be based solely on water consumption, as required by ordinance.

SEWER VENTS: Sewer vents and clean-outs are a critical part of every building’s sanitary sewer lateral. They provide access for repair, maintenance and inspection of the sewer pipes that convey sewage from a building to the Township’s sewer collection system. The sewer vents and clean-outs are owned by and the responsibility of the property owner. The area around the sewer vents and clean-outs must be kept clear of vegetation, land- scaping, and other permanent structures.

POTHOLES: The Highway Department fills potholes all year round. Please call (610) 777-1343 to report potholes and a crew will be dispatched.
