0287543_32 When I started looking for someone to score Spooks: The Greater Good I knew it would be a major undertaking. There was the history of the hugely successful TV show behind us, but the movie had to stand on its own two feet. I felt strongly that we had to find someone who could bring something new and unique to the musical landscape.

That someone was Dominic Lewis. I was lucky enough to have heard some of his earlier work and was drawn to how his music always played to the drama of a scene. It was never there just to be music, never showy, and it always had a reason to exist.

WILL_HOLLOWAY On our first meeting Dominic mentioned that he had an idea for scoring a thriller with no ostinato (if you are not a musician look it up... I had too! ). He played a “bouncing ball” theme to me which became the central and rather brilliant motif to the whole score . From then on I was hooked. It was such a fresh approach.

Dominic has an innate gift of finding and understanding the dramatic heart of every scene. He knew straight away what drove Spooks: The Greater Good. Yes there’s plenty of action and tension but at its core are the decisions our heroes have to make, as Kit Harrington’s character Will says “ you can do good or do well”. That acted as the kernel for all of Dominic’s musical choices.

He is a born storyteller very much in touch with how music can accentuate our emotions. He finds themes and then weaves and connects them effortlessly throughout, to create a score that is never manipulative but feels beautifully whole.

It was a joy working with him. I for one intend to make it a long lasting relationship.
