Introduction

Career Assistance Programme (CAP) provides inclusive, participatory career guidance & assistance for young people in to access higher education. CAP works in both in schools & in the communities. It was started in 2014 at Lira Town College. It targets mainly primary, secondary school students and young adults.

CAP is a programme of Centre for Skills and Innovation (CSI), a non-profit initiative based in Lira, northern Uganda.

Project Objectives

• To provide high school leavers with vital information to join higher education. • To encourage students to pursue STEM careers and pathways. • To assist students with university application process.

SDG Goals

The programme fosters attainment of SDG goals 4 and 5.

Education is a human right & driver for development.

Also, helping girls attain education improves their lives and the future of their families.

How it Started

My interest at the time (2014) was to help my students gain access to top universities in the country. I had seen my students aim only for small institutions and they thought University, University and others were only for the rich.

Later, I realised that the issues surrounding career guidance and university application process was a problem in the entire region. For 6 years now, the CAP has helped thousands of students and adults gain university admission & continue their education Emmanuel Angoda Teacher, Lira Town College (2012-2019)

Our 2020 Plan & Partners

This year, we are expanding the programme to four schools, 3 in Lango sub region and 1 school in Bunyoro sub region. We target to reach and impact 600 students, from the districts of Lira, Dokolo, Oyam, Kole, Kiryandongo, Alebtong and Otuke.
