The couple posed for photographs and spoke with reporters. rince Harry of Wales and Meghan Markle beamed at each other. While cameras flashed and reporters buzzed around them, they stood Pcomfortably, arm in arm. The two were on the front steps of Kensington Palace, the home of the British royal family in London, England. Harry was wearing a fitted blue suit, and Meghan was in a white trench coat. But the photographers had their eyes on something else: Meghan’s diamond engagement ring. After dating for a little more than a year, Harry and Meghan became engaged. They officially announced the engagement on November 27, 2017. Harry had designed the engagement ring. The ring’s stones held great sentimental value for him. The center stone came from Botswana, an African country Harry visited with Meghan when they first started dating. The two outer stones belonged to his famous mother, Diana, Princess of Wales. Harry included those stones to honor his mother and, as he put it, “to make sure that she’s with us on this crazy journey together.” 7 Meghan’s ring sparkles as she wears it publicly for the first time at Kensington Palace. The announcement took the United Kingdom and the rest of the world by storm. The British royal family has always been fascinating to the public, and the prospect of a royal wedding was hugely exciting. The news that Meghan would join the royal family was especially interesting to people in the United States. It was once traditional for members of the royal family to marry other members of the British aristocracy. But Meghan is no aristocrat. She is not even British. Meghan is an American. But despite being something of an outsider, she has been welcomed warmly into the royal family. People around the world followed the wedding closely and watched as Harry and Meghan formed a new royal family. 8 Born a Royal Prince Henry Charles Albert David was born on September 15, 1984, in London. Everyone calls him Harry. Harry is the second child of Charles and Diana, Prince and Princess of Wales. Harry’s older brother, William, was born in 1982. And his grandmother is Elizabeth II, the queen of the United Kingdom. Harry’s full title is His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales. As the grandson of the queen, he is sixth in line for the throne. So Harry probably will never become the king. Charles and Diana, the Prince and Princess of Wales, leave the hospital with baby Harry in September 1984. 9 SOURCE NOTES 7 Caroline Hallemann, “Meghan Markle’s Engagement Ring Is Absolutely Stunning,” Town and Country, January 9, 2018, http://www.townandcountrymag.com/society/tradition /a13090749/meghan-markle-engagement-ring/. 17–18 Britt Stephens, “30 Sweet, Heartbreaking Things William and Harry Have Said about Princess Diana,” PopSugar, September 27, 2017, https://www.popsugar.com/celebrity/Prince-William -Prince-Harry-Quotes-About-Princess-Diana-43341113. 18 Diana Pearl, “Prince Harry’s Most Revealing Quotes about His Near Breakdown: ‘I Refused to Ever Think about My Mom,’” People, April 17, 2017, http://people.com/royals/prince-harrys -most-revealing-quotes-about-his-near-breakdown-i-refused-to -ever-think-about-my-mom/. 18 Pearl. 22 “Prince Harry Biography,” Biography.com, March 19, 2018, https://www.biography.com/people/prince-harry-9542035. 23–24 Diana Pearl, “14 Times Prince Harry Got Seriously Raw,” People, June 28, 2017, http://people.com/royals/14-times-prince-harry -got-seriously-raw/he-felt-most-at-home-in-the-army-and -resented-the-journalist-who-outed-his-afghanistan-service. 24 “Read Royal Reactions to William and Kate’s Engagement,” PopSugar, November 22, 2010, https://www.popsugar.com.au /celebrity/photo-gallery/12170531/image/12170528/Prince -Charles. 27 Morgan Evans, “Prince Harry Opens Up about the One Place He Feels Most at Home,” Harper’s Bazaar, January 3, 2017, http:// www.harpersbazaar.com/culture/features/news/a19694/prince -harry-town-and-country-interview-africa/. 44 30 Meghan Markle, “Meghan Markle: I’m More Than an ‘Other,’” Elle (UK), December 12, 2016, http://www.elleuk.com/life-and -culture/news/a26855/more-than-an-other/. 31 Maura Brannigan, “Exclusive: Q&A with Suits’ Meghan Markle,” Marie Claire, June 5, 2013, http://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity /news/a7733/meghan-markle-interview/. 32 Markle, “I’m More.” 33 Markle. 34–35 Meghan Markle, “Meghan Markle for ELLE: ‘With Fame Comes Opportunity, but Also a Responsibility,’” Elle (UK), November 8, 2016, http://www.elleuk.com/life-and-culture/elle-voices/articles /a32612/meghan-markle-fame-comes-responsibility. 37–38 Morgan Evans, “A Definitive History of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Royal Relationship,” Town and Country, January 24, 2018, http://www.townandcountrymag.com/society /a9664508/prince-harry-meghan-markle-relationship/. 38 Katie Frost, “Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Are Engaged!,” Town and Country, November 27, 2017, https://www .townandcountrymag.com/society/tradition/a12198435 /prince-harry-meghan-markle-engaged/. 45 SELECTED BIBLIOGRAPHY Junor, Penny. DNA EVIDENCE and LOUIS XVII Jean-Louis Prieur (1759-1795) created this illustration of Louis-Charles, the French Dauphin, depicting his treatment in prison. The title of this 1794 work is: Simon le cordonnier et Louis XVII au Temple (“Simon the Shoemaker and Louis XVII at the Temple”). Once his father was executed, royalists referred to the Dauphin as King Louis XVII. The illustration is maintained at the BnF and is online via Gallica (the BnF’s digitized gallery). Louis-Charles, the orphaned son of a king and—to royalists—a king (Louis XVII) himself, would have been better off had his captors simply killed him. Instead, he endured unimaginable conditions in Temple prison, existing in a room above his sister. When first imprisoned, he was a bright, good-looking child: ...his blue eyes, aquiline nose, elevated nostrils, well-defined mouth, pouting lips, chestnut hair parted in the middle and falling in thick curls on his shoulders, resembled his mother before her years of tears and torture. All the beauty of his race, by both descents, seemed to reappear in him. (Campan, Memoirs of Marie Antoinette, Supplement to Chapter IX - scroll down 60%.) An acquaintance of Robespierre, Antoine Simon (often called "Simon the shoemaker"), was charged with caring for the young prince.

  • A Comparative Study on Designating the Crown Prince of Emperor Taizong of Liao Dynasty and Emperor Taizong of Jin Dynasty
2021 5th International Conference on Education, Management and Social Science (EMSS 2021) A Comparative Study on Designating the Crown Prince of Emperor Taizong of Liao Dynasty and Emperor Taizong of Jin Dynasty Jun Feng School of History and Culture, Sichuan University, Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China Keywords: Emperor taizong of liao dynasty, Emperor taizong of jin dynasty, Designation of the crown prince Abstract: Emperor Taizong of Liao Dynasty and Emperor Taizong of Jin Dynasty; both gave up designating their sons as the crown prince. Emperor Taizong of Liao Dynasty relied on his mother to seize the inheritance rights. Under the pressure of the mother, he chose his younger brother as the heir. Although Emperor Taizong of Jin Dynasty continued the tradition of designating the younger brother as the crown prince in the early days, after the death of his brother, he chose the grandson of Emperor Taizu as the heir. This reflects that imperial clan struggle was a common phenomenon in the early days of the nomadic dynasty. 1. Introduction Yelu Deguang, Emperor Taizong of Liao Dynasty and Wanyan Sheng, Emperor Taizong of Jin Dynasty, were the second emperors of the Liao Dynasty and Jin Dynasty. Due to the different political situation in the early years of the two dynasties, there were differences of enthronement between Emperor Taizong of Liao Dynasty and Emperor Taizong of Jin Dynasty. Emperor Taizong of Liao Dynasty relied on the power of his mother to seize power, while Emperor Taizong of Jin Dynasty relied on Taizu's rule of designating the younger brother as the crown prince, but to a certain extent it also inspired the clan brothers to climb to the peak of power.

Contents Title Page Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6 Chapter 7 Chapter 8 Chapter 9 Chapter 10 Chapter 11 Chapter 12 Photo Section Copyright CHAPTER 1 On May 19th 2018, when Meghan Markle stepped out of the antique Rolls Royce conveying her and her mother Doria Ragland from the former Astor stately home Cliveden to St. George’s Chapel, Windsor, where she was due to be married at 12 noon, she was a veritable vision of loveliness. At that moment, one of the biggest names of the age was born. As the actress ascended the steps of St. George’s Chapel, its interior and exterior gorgeously decorated in the most lavish and tasteful spring flowers, she was a picture of demure and fetching modesty, stylish elegance, transparent joyousness, and radiant beauty. The simplicity of her white silk wedding dress, designed by Clare Waight Keller of Givenchy, with its bateau neckline, three-quarter length sleeves, and stark, unadorned but stunningly simple bodice and skirt, coupled with the extravagant veil, five metres long and three metres wide, heavily embroidered with two of her favourite flowers (wintersweet and California poppy, as well as the fifty three native flowers of the various Commonwealth countries, and symbolic crops of wheat, and a piece of the blue dress that the bride had worn on her first date with the groom), gave out a powerful message. All bridal gowns make statements. Diana, Princess of Wales, according to her friend Carolyn Pride, used hers to announce to the world, ‘Here I am.

MONARCH FUN FACTS Monarchs are probably the best known butterflies in North America. Seven U.S. states list the monarch as their official state insect or butterfly. Monarchs have a wingspan of approximately 9 - 11 cm (4 inches) and an average weight of about half a gram – about the weight of a paper clip! Monarchs are in the butterfly family Nymphalidae. Members of this family appear to have only 4 legs, but they really do have 6. The front pair of legs is greatly reduced in size and tucked up under the head. Monarchs have a remarkable long-distance migration. In North America, monarchs overwinter in both Mexico and along the California coast. A monarch can fly up to 2,700 miles (4,345 km). With the same weight to distance ratio, that would be the same as a robin flying to the moon and most of the way back. The longest recorded flight for a monarch was one tagged in Nova Scotia and recovered in central Mexico, a distance of 2,690 miles (4,200 km). In the west, a monarch tagged in Camp Verde, Arizona, flew 1,247 miles (2,006 km) to central Mexico while a monarch tagged in Redmond, Washington, was found in Morro Bay, California, a flight of 865 miles (1,391 km). Butterfly wings are densely covered with scales that improve their aerodynamic efficiency. The upper surface of the thorax is covered with long hair-like scales that help retain heat. The bright patterned orange and black wings of monarchs advertise that they taste bad to predators.
