He got the nickname Chum after his grandmother said "Oh, my little chum!" when she first saw him at a day old. Chum’s speedway career began in 1948 at the Claremont Speedway, where his success led to him receiving several offers from Britain. Chum rode for many teams in the UK from 1951 to 1966. He was known as the "Master" of Claremont Speedway where he regularly beat most of the visiting riders, including several World Champions. In 1973 Chum retired from racing at the age of 46, after breaking his shoul- der blade in a crash. Career highlights include: * Won the Australian Solo Championship at Rowley Park (SA) in 1996. * Winning the Western Australia Championship on five occasions (1958, 1962, 1963, 1968, 1970) * Representing Australia at the World Final in 1960, where he finished in 11th place * Captaining Australia in a Test Match against England * Winning the Australian Solo Championship in 1966 His autobiography, A Dangerous Life, was published in 1986. He comes from a racing family, with both his father and uncle competing at the Yanchep road racing circuit. Nash began his career riding Motocross in 1965, competing at For- restfield, Northam and Rockingham. Like Chum, his speedway ca- reer began at Claremont Speedway, in 1967 as a passenger for Danny Smith. As a Sidecar rider, Nash chose the number 13 and a pink jacket for a bit of a laugh. He helped revolutionise Sidecar racing with his Nashmobile racing frame. Career highlights include: * Winning the Australian Sidecar Championship five times (1976, 1981, 1983, 1988, 1989) * Winning the Australian Pairs Championship three times * Winning the WA title a record nine times from 1971 to 1992 • Winning the prestigious Lawson Medal for the fairest
