He got the nickname Chum after his grandmother said "Oh, my little chum!" when she first saw him at a day old. Chum’s speedway career began in 1948 at the Claremont Speedway, where his success led to him receiving several offers from Britain. Chum rode for many teams in the UK from 1951 to 1966. He was known as the "Master" of Claremont Speedway where he regularly beat most of the visiting riders, including several World Champions. In 1973 Chum retired from racing at the age of 46, after breaking his shoul- der blade in a crash. Career highlights include: * Won the Australian Solo Championship at Rowley Park (SA) in 1996. * Winning the Western Australia Championship on five occasions (1958, 1962, 1963, 1968, 1970) * Representing Australia at the World Final in 1960, where he finished in 11th place * Captaining Australia in a Test Match against England * Winning the Australian Solo Championship in 1966 His autobiography, A Dangerous Life, was published in 1986. He comes from a racing family, with both his father and uncle competing at the Yanchep road racing circuit. Nash began his career riding Motocross in 1965, competing at For- restfield, Northam and Rockingham. Like Chum, his speedway ca- reer began at Claremont Speedway, in 1967 as a passenger for Danny Smith. As a Sidecar rider, Nash chose the number 13 and a pink jacket for a bit of a laugh. He helped revolutionise Sidecar racing with his Nashmobile racing frame. Career highlights include: * Winning the Australian Sidecar Championship five times (1976, 1981, 1983, 1988, 1989) * Winning the Australian Pairs Championship three times * Winning the WA title a record nine times from 1971 to 1992 • Winning the prestigious Lawson Medal for the fairest

Yet again we have thought about the future and we have agreed we can continue on run with Volume 15. Yet again we put out a call for articles which allows us to share information of interest to we speedway historians. There is a massive range of topics out there and there is no restriction on the era you can write about. The subscription for Volume 15 will be £5 yet again so not cost of living busting rise to add to inflationary pressures (whatever that means.)     2012 Team Racing Sponsorship Proposal Speedway Sidecars is a motorcycle sport involving 4 teams consisting of a rider and a passenger competing over 4 laps on an oval shale track. Rules are governed by the national speedway federation and are not dissimilar to conventional speedway rules. Speedway Sidecars is most popular in Australia although in Great Britain it also has a strong following. Speedway sidecar events are also held in New Zealand, South Africa and United States of America. Because of the nature of the sports hotbeds being spread so wide across the globe, organising an official World Championship has been an arduous task, though in 2006 the first successful Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme or (FIM for short) World Track Racing Sidecar Championships (Sidecar Gold Cup) were held at Isle of Wight Speedway stadium. The event was screened live on Sky Sports. Racing speedway sidecars involves a rider and a passenger mounted on a 1000cc purpose built, three-wheeled sidecar outfit. The passenger of the machine is as much involved in the race performance as the rider. The two members of the sidecar team work in unison to ride the outfit as best they can. Speedway circuits are a loose shale surface and therefore traction is most important. The passenger plays a major part in controlling the amount of traction being created on the rear wheel. He does so by moving his weight forwards, backwards and sideways (either in to or out of the machine). The outfit only ever turns right so the passenger only finds himself on the right hand side of the outfit.

    Sprint car racing 1 Sprint car racing Sprint cars are high-powered race cars designed primarily for the purpose of running on short oval or circular dirt or paved tracks. Sprint car racing is popular in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Sprint cars have a high power-to-weight ratio, making speeds in excess of 140 miles per hour (230 km/h) possible on some tracks. 900 horsepower (670 kW) is commonplace for these machines which typically have a 410 cubic inch engine displacement.[1] A lower cost but still popular class of sprint cars uses 360 cubic inch engines and produce approximately 700 horsepower (520 kW). The safety record of Modern sprint car sprint car racing in recent years has been greatly improved by the use of roll cages to protect the drivers. Many Indicator Series and NASCAR drivers used sprint car racing as an intermediate stepping stone on their way to more high profile divisions, including Indianapolis 500 winners A.J. Foyt, Mario Andretti, Johnny Rutherford, Parnell Jones, Johnnie Parsons, and Al Unser, Jr., as well as NASCAR Sprint Cup champions Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart.     High Speeds, Highlights and Hijinks Tralee Raceway A Short History of A Short Track Speedway John Maher The Smell of Things To Come and Petrol Fumes Tralee station consisted of around 3000 acres, situated on the NSW side of the border with the ACT, the property had been in the Morrison family since the early and was as well known for its sheep as it was for the entertainment provided by Dances held in its woolshed. 1968 Mr Bernie L. Morrison announced in the local papers that in conjunction with the Canberra Stock Car Club, that he had arranged for 50 acres of the to be converted to a speedway. It was to be modelled on the existing Liverpool Speedway and to be constructed at 40 feet wide and 86 yards long. The track and safety fences were estimated to cost $20,000. The Mt Ginn raceway has recently told the Canberra Stock Car Club consisting of 60 members and 43 cars their access to the track would soon cease. As early as 1967 names that raced Mt Ginn would become part of Tralee , included were Peter Gurbiel, Bob Swann, Peter Strudwicke, Vic Sykes, David Wignall, David Lewis, Keith Richardson, Phil Cancillier, and Ron Ulrich. 1969 construction of the track having received all necessary approvals was well under way and Peter Gurbeil of the Canberra Stock Car Club announced the formation of a Speedway association to promote and run racing at least once a month with hopes for twice a month. Construction Of The Buildings Nears Completion 1970 arrived and the track was ready to be opened.
