Bootcamp is Back! The will be running a Careers Bootcamp in the Spring Term 2017 (date tbc). The Careers Bootcamp aims to test and develop key transferable employability skills such as articulating experience, communication, teamwork and presenting whilst allowing the students to practise these skills in a supportive and safe environment. Each group will also be working closely with a ‘Career Coach’ student ambassador who will offer support, motivation and coaching throughout the activities. Subject in a Box University Outreach staff working with Loughborough academics have created subject­focused activities that can be mailed out to your school in the new year. We would love to trial this activity with your schools, subjects include Creative Writing, Sport Science, Business, Air Transport Management, Chemistry & Physics, with more coming online in the near future. College Higher Directories

The REACH Partnership have produced a directory of the local College Higher Education on offer in Leicestershire. The directory is a great guide for students thinking about their next steps and those looking at an alternative to university. The directory includes courses from , , , Stephenson College and South Leicestershire College. If your school would like some copies of this for your resource library please contact [email protected] before 12th December and we will get them sent out to you.

University of Leicester WP News We’d like to remind schools that University of Leicester have released all of the dates for Pre­16 events in the spring and summer terms 2017. Schools should please contact Nicola or Angelica at [email protected] for more information.

The university of Leicester WP team have been very busy on campus this term with a number of University Explored days for Babington Community College’s Year 7,8 and 9 students, and also a UE day for Crown Hills’ Year 8.

The team have also been out and about at Year 11 Options Evenings at Moat, Judgemeadow and Madani. They have also attended the Year 4­6 parents’ evening at Samworth Academy, the pupils really enjoyed trying on the junior graduation cap and gown!

The University of Leicester also hosted the Royal Television Society enterprise challenge event on 15th November. This 4 hour workshop provided an excellent platform for young people to learn about the wide variety of jobs involved in TV. During the second half of the session, students took on the role of a production company and design a concept for a new TV programme. The teams decided on feature names, logo, themes, genres and audience. Throughout the workshop students developed valuable skills such as confidence, teamwork, creativity, diplomacy, working to deadlines, communication, presentation and leadership. Participating schools were: Babington CC, Madani, Limehurst, Redmoor Academy, SJNCC, City of Leicester, Fullhurst and Judgemeadow.

Loughborough University have some availability for schools to bring Year 10 students onto their Challenge Days ­ 24th, 25th & 26th January (spaces are limited and you will need to book ASAP). Contact: [email protected]

Twenty­three staff from across schools, FE, HE and voluntary organisations came together for the second ‘We Care’ training event at Loughborough University on 15th November. Designed to raise awareness of the issues and challenges young people with caring responsibilities may face and how this can impact on their life and education. More than 40 teachers from across the local area attended Loughborough University’s School annual Teachers and Careers Advisor Conference on 3rd November. The conference gives teachers an opportunity to learn in detail about the UCAS application process to help support their students, as well as looking at topics such the skills and attributes employers are looking for, writing academic references, how to market schools in a competitive environment and what to include in a Higher Education programme.
