GATEWAY PGA JUNIOR INTERNSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT HYBRID JUNIOR GOLF INTERN OPERATIONS & MULTIMEDIA

The Gateway PGA Section is 1 of 41 geographical sections of the PGA of America. The Gateway PGA Section exists to grow the game of golf and to serve the 330 PGA Professionals and Associates from Central and Eastern Missouri to Central and Southern Illinois. PGA REACH Gateway is the Gateway PGA’s 501(C)3 non-profit foundation and exists to positively impact lives through the community of golf. PGA REACH is passionate about improving the lives in the community through its multiple Pillars: Youth, Military, Diversity & Inclusions, and North St. Louis Initiative.

The Gateway PGA Junior Golf Program is one of country’s largest junior golf programs, serving thousands of local juniors each year through its various programing. Gateway PGA Junior Programs include the following: Gateway PGA Junior Tour, Junior Development Tour, , Chip & Putt, and PGA Jr. League.

Position: Junior Golf Hybrid Intern (Operations & Multimedia) Summer Internship (11-week internship) May 24, 2021 – August 6, 2021 (dates tentative)

Description: The Gateway PGA Section and PGA REACH Gateway are looking for a qualified applicant to learn from, observe, and assist the full-time staff as a Junior Golf Hybrid Intern. The internship will involve a hybrid role in assisting both in junior golf tournament operations and a variety of multimedia responsibilities. The Junior Golf Hybrid Intern will work under supervision of the Gateway PGA Junior Golf Manager and Communications Coordinator.

The Gateway PGA Internship program is designed to prepare its participants for a career in the golf/sports industry and to help in their professional development. The Junior Golf Hybrid Intern will be given the opportunity to learn critical leadership and management skills through assistance with tournament operations. The Junior Golf Hybrid Intern will also have the unique opportunity to play a role in capturing the stories of Gateway Section PGA Professional, local junior golfers, and PGA REACH Gateway programming (primarily through social media). GPGA Interns are given continuous opportunities to expand their professional network to include the leaders of Gateway golf community. The GPGA internship program is held in high regards and very well respected by the golf community, golf professionals, and prospective employers. The following information should help you get a better understanding of the tasks, responsibilities, and rewards that come with this role.

Work Schedule: In order to best serve the Gateway PGA golf community through the industry’s peak season, the Gateway PGA full- time staff and intern team will be required to work long hours throughout the summer. The Junior Golf Hybrid Intern will have a varying schedule depending on each week’s programming load. A typical day could begin as early as 5:00 AM and could end as late as 8:00 PM. The intern will typically work a 40-hour work week and must be willing to work overtime hours when needed. The intern will be required to travel extensively throughout the Greater St. Louis and Metro/Southern Illinois regions.

Experience & Skill Requirements: ➢ Applicants must be a current college student (minimum of one year completed) or a recent graduate ➢ Basic golf knowledge ( Experience is a plus) ➢ Excellent verbal and written communications skills ➢ Basic photography and videography knowledge ➢ Computer literacy in Microsoft Office, Google Suites, and social media platforms (WordPress is a plus) ➢ Strong work ethic and desire to excel in media and communications in the golf or sports industry ➢ Well organized, punctual, and detail oriented ➢ Ability to effectively communicate and remain flexible in a team environment with changing roles ➢ Desire to interact with Gateway PGA Professionals, junior golfers (ages 6-18) , and their families ➢ Willingness to occasionally work overtime and long hours in various weather conditions ➢ Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license required

Junior Golf Tournament Operations Responsibilities: ➢ Assist GPGA Junior Golf Manager and the Junior Golf Intern Team when needed with the administration of Gateway PGA Junior Tour, Gateway PGA Junior Development Tour, and Drive, Chip & Putt Events. ➢ Tournament Operations Responsibilities include: and event set-up, inventory management, event and tournament operations, monitoring pace of play, starting/scoring of players, and more. ➢ Provide excellent customer service experiences to Gateway PGA junior golfers and their families ➢ Travel to host course tournament sites throughout the St. Louis Metro Area as representatives of the Gateway PGA Section and PGA REACH Gateway

Multi-Media Responsibilities: ➢ Photograph/Video golfers during tournaments and at award ceremonies ➢ Post imagery and B-roll to social media platforms ➢ Conduct and record post tournament interviews ➢ Assist in keeping language, dates, and blog stories on the website up to date ➢ Fill and send press releases for tournaments and events to local media

Compensation & Internship Benefits: ➢ $10.30 + Overtime pay ➢ Mileage reimbursement for work related travel ➢ Meals provided while at events ➢ Uniform golf polos will be provided for tournament days ➢ School credit (if applicable)
